"Fresh" SEO Techniques and How They Work For My Sites (starting from link packages)

I want to open a discussion for "fresh" SEO techniques that work. I am sure you guys - I mean SEOs or those who want to improve rankings for their sites, first of all, agree that in our days there is nothing to hide from each other since all tools and strategies we apply to our sites work absolutely differently and depend on a very big number of factors.
For example, I was doing an experiment and have ordered a link package of 5000 links and shared it among 3 sites. As the result one was practically killed and 2 have improved. The main reason for a dead one was that it had too little links profile (around 1000 links) and simply could not "digest" the new links flow of around 1000-1500 links (of course not all were indexed and crawled). It has taken it 3 month and quite a number of other efforts (good quality links of different types, accurate drip feeding of links, anchors diversity correction, anchors ratio adjustment) to recover. For other 2 sites those links have been done for the sake of anchor diversity and anchor ratio increase and it worked quite well. As you might have already understood those were quite average quality links which in our business we call mostly spam links.
A few weeks ago one of the sites has started to loose rank for quite competitive keyword. It was loosing 2 points a day and in 2 days moved to 2nd page of Google. The anchors profile was not very good. It has over 30% for that main keyword and this needed to be deluted. So what helped was a Fever pack for 4000+ forum profiles. They get crawled not so fast but it is a positive side rather than a negative in this situation, as the site was getting a dozen of links daily and in a week the main keyword anchor ratio has started to move down slowly. Then a few press releases were ordered NOT for the main keyword but just for its variation. In 2 weeks I've had the site back with its previous rank.
So the conclusion is that even these links may work well for you if are done wisely.
