Hello,

I'm currently building a music blog and I want to optimize the blog for one specific keyword. For example "Trance Blog". Now, how would I go about optimizing the whole site for just that keyphrase "Trance Blog". Also, when it comes to individual posts, which will be basically have a video from youtube of the specific song with a short little description and the songs release notes. How would I begin to optimize each post? Should I optimize for the specific song title or the keyphrase I want to optimize for the whole site? As you can tell I am a newbie at this and had just begun my journey. I have tried doing some SEO before when it came to product reviews and stuff but this is my first music blog, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've already tried using the search function on the forum but couldn't find anything. But, If this is basically a repost or there is already information about this somewhere on the forum could you please redirect me to that information.

Thanks,
Dauzy

I would just make sure to have a the keyword in my title and in the description, you could internal link back to your main site at the end of posts with Trance Blog in it but honestly I wouldn't even concern myself with it - the keyword has around 320 exact searches per month which isn't going to amount to much of anything and you could probably rank for that term with a few high-pr backlinks if you really wanted to anyways.

If it's a music blog, write cool engaging content, share it on the social sites, build a facebook following, start a forum even... if what you're doing is interesting to people you'll build a following without worrying about ranking for a crappy keyword and making your blog "keyword optimized"

Thanks for you advice. You are absolutely right about the keyword probably not being worth it. "Trance Blog" technically isn't my keyword but the keyword i wanted to focus on was something along the same lines and also produces a very low monthly search. But if I were to choose a keyword that produces more monthly searches such as "Trance music" then what I should do is include "Trance Music" in my meta title and description?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but what I believe what you're telling me is that I should probably focus on getting traffic to my site using Social Media. Since my keyword basically isn't producing enough monthly searches.

You definitely want to optimize one keyword per page.

Back in 2010 or so it was common to make every page on your site based around a single keyword. That's not effective anymore.

I recommend dedicating your homepage to ONE keyword (trance blog), and then targeting long tail keywords with each blog post.

Thanks for the advice! Now the problem with trying to optimize one keyword per page is that I'm not to sure what to use as the keyword for a specific page/post. For example say if I wanted to post a song on to my blog which is titled "Jeremy Olander - Let Me Feel (Original Mix)". I am not sure how I would generate a fitting keyword. Would I focus the song title as my keyword or maybe should I focus the keyword as the genre of the song "trance"? Now, technically what my goal is with this site is to have this site to be on top if someone searched for the genre of music that my blog pertains to "Trance music". So technically my site would be optimized for the term "trance music" but should I do the same to my posts or should I try to optimize the post for a keyword such as "best trance music"?

      Thanks again for the help.

You obviously want to target keywords that people are actually searching for.

Unless you're Bieber, no one is going to be searching for your song titles.

So find 50+ keywords that people use to find trance music ("best trance songs of all time" etc.) and make a post about each one.

However, keep in mind that SEO isn't the best route for every vertical. You may be better off promoting your content in other ways.

Another problem you will face is that just about any song that exists in the work in on YouTube now and they will usually outrank anyone who tried to to optimize for that song using the same video. Just type a song name into google and see for yourself - YouTube,Wikipedia and maybe the artists own website will rank top three. No blogs to be seen. By all means add music videos and talk about them but dot expect it to bring traffic alone. If you show enthusiasm in each post you might be able to build a following or repeat visitors. I would also recommend digging for keywords around the genre. Eg "top 10 trance djs", "how to mix trance music", "best trance parties","is vinyl music still relevant" etc

Thanks the for the advice. I noticed thats the case if you google search any song on google. So it looks like I have to target something else rather then the song itself. I guess I have to focus on generating traffic other ways.

Here is a forum: TranceAddict - Electronic Dance Music Forums.

Look at what people are talking about there and get ideas about keywords to target for your blog.
