Totally Confusing Google Rankings

I'm based in the UK yet my site gets significantly higher Google placings in the US. I actually barely rank anything at all in the UK.

Keyword 1
US - 8
UK - N/A

Keyword 2
US - 16
UK - 75

That's the kind of pattern I'm getting on all of my keywords. It's not entirely a bad thing because I get a ton of traffic from the US, but I'd like to know:

1) Why this is happening. It's not as if my keywords are region specific; it's stuff like "Best Green Lantern Graphic Novels." My competitors don't seem to have this problem.

2) How can I improve my UK rankings without damaging my US ones?

As always thanks for the advice guys. I get a ton of inspiration from this forum and I can't believe some of you give your advice for free.

Check your site's hosting. Also check the location you have set in Google webmasters.

I have the same problem (if thats what you call it?) sometimes with .co.uk domains and after looking into it I came to the conclusion it was 1) My hosting was on a US based shared server and 2) My backlink profile was US heavy.

My advice would be add you site to as many UK directories as you can and also a few niche based uk forums.

    Hope it works out.

It's not a problem of location, people in USA are the top Internet users for your keyword, what i suggest is to add and use a key phrase related to UK? as an example, "marketer from UK " , it's better to use a key phrases with "UK, London ...) and add your site to the top UK directories (don't use auto submission).
    Good Luck.

Agree.. because you are getting the result from Area / Country Server. you can use US or UK IP to check your Serp on that server for more accurate result.

Yes we too had similar problem.

For the same keywords we are ranking under 3 in US and in UK we were not even in top 20. One reason was, our servers are US based and another is we didn't have links from UK sites/ directories/ blog/ forums.

We started targeting UK sites and got the better results.
