i was just wondering if anybody has experience this before, my site was getting 4000 clicks from google, but adding authorship on the site, my click-through rate reduced to 2000 plus traffic per day. the site ranking is still the same, have any of you experienced this. The site is a tool site.

Maybe you are right, but even at that, the rate in reduction is too high, i was wondering whether it is because it is a tool site and not an article site.

Authorship probably does not even show up for most searches...

BUT....from my own experience, I will never click an item in search
from a google+. I aint looking for that. I'm looking for something,
well, more substantial then joe blow with a plus account.

Were you not satisfied with 4000? That's called killing the golden
goose. You messed with a lot of stuff that will change how your
        site acts in SERPs.

The responses about getting a new face are not far off.

Like, maybe removing it. I would imagine people are like me.
They don't know you and certainly don't want some personal
        stuff when doing real searches.

        Whaddya think google is, facebook?

If I want FB-esque searches, I'll go on FB. But then, I never
        search there either.

Sorry Paul, but I think you are off on this. Every case I have tried or witnessed of adding authorship to a listing has caused an increase of at least 10% in traffic. In some cases it has exceeded 25%.

In one case, the site dropped 2 spots in the rankings from #4 to #6, and saw an INCREASE in traffic.

Authorship makes the listing standout in the SERP. It draws peoples eyes. It's simple marketing. I do not believe it turns people off at all in the way you describe. In fact, I would bet that 99% of Google's users have no freaking clue that it has anything to do with Google+.

Rather than a faceless, emotionless listing, people see what they believe to be a real life person behind the information they are searching for.

Well, I can't say I search for things that people do here,
            but point taken.

But anytime someone is not satisfied, and messes with SERPs,
you are probably messing with the wrong thing.

But cause and effect are sometimes mistaken. Who knows
            why the clicks stopped coming?

If sig links are examples, I don't want a google plus article
on buttons. I want a button maker. If I saw a google plus
site, I'd assume it was not a button generator.

Interesting. I've tested this quite a bit and I've always, 100% had more traffic and click- throughs when having an authorship image.

    Solution: Get a new face

I think Google is testing something out right now. One of my sites went from having a steady stream of traffic all the way down to zero and their bot stopped indexing my new content. I waited it out and now the traffic is back and the indexing/ranking has resumed.

Yes, the solution is to get a new face. As a regular searcher, when I saw the result that I want but the author seem to be weird and undependable, I'd find another one or click another one even if it is on the 5th -10th position.

So you have a tool site marketed to men, it sort of makes sense that they don't want to click the picture of a guy. Maybe put a picture of you with a beautiful lady, or just an image of a lady... Grab their attention with your image!

I've seen this happen for some queries. When people are looking for reviews or general information they love my authorship pictures. When they're looking for technical specifications it's either not a draw, or somewhat negative. (But nothing like a 50% reduction in CTR!)

Yeah, it's probably not your face:

If That Was A Google Update You Felt, Google's Not Confirming It

    From the above link:

If you look at the various discussion forums, including some like WebmasterWorld and Google Webmaster Help, there is definitely an uptick in discussion around ranking changes. If you look at the Google monitoring tools such as MozCast and SERPs.com, there are clear signs of more fluctuation in the search results this past week than in prior weeks.

If you look in the comments at two posts I made at the Search Engine Roundtable, one on May 9th and the other on May 7th, and totaling about 200 comments – you will see many people claiming either ranking declines or ranking improvements.

I don't think there's any connection between traffic, authorship or your face.... Just check your keyword trend, maybe it is decreasing

  • I would test a new picture if you truly think it is authorship. The key is to just keep testing and testing and testing.

I said i will posting my observation, here is what i noticed
The first site is a tool site, i change face to a sharper picture, traffic increase by 0.5% but still lesser than the original traffic, all Serp keyword ranking are the same no drop in traffic.

traffic from this site are mainly from Africa, Malaysia, singapore

The second site , which i added authorship after i saw a decrease in the first site traffic, show up to 20% increase in traffic.

The second site is also a tool site with traffic mainly from US, canada, Uk .

I think site region traffic and picture play a major role in authorship effect on click through

After I`ve made the proper changes for authorship to my website, how much time does it take to see the proper changes in our traffic as well?

I`ve red that some of you guys saw an increase in traffic after these changes. I was wondering how time does it take?
