How to Check Whether a Domain Has Been Penalized by Google?

I've checked archive.org and it seems that back in 2005 the website used to be spammy. I think that it used to be a link farm or directory of some sort. It was registered once again in 2011 but the only thing that comes up is an under construction page.

Would it be safe to buy this domain and start adding content?

The first question thing you must determine is whether your website has been manually penalized or penalized by the algorithm.

With a manual penalty, you probably won't even be able to find your website by name. In other words, if you Google, "www.yoursite.com", you'll get nothing. This indicates that your site has been completely removed from Google's index.

Being penalized by Google's algorithm is different. You may still find your website for your company name and even for some generic keyword searches, but you'll probably find that your overall rankings, and traffic from your most competitive keywords are WAY down.

Which of problems do you have (your website is NOT in Google, or you just lost your ranking?)

In both cases this could happen either from backlink bombing (if you had built a LOT of backlinks in a short period of time -> like hundreds per 2-3 days) or SPAMMY backlinks (mostly this could happen when you are using blog commenting as your SEO strategy)

The only thing you can do right now is to tell us what's your problem and if you can, try to remove this backlink (or backlinks!) and build a FEW, but HIGH QUALITY backlinks (guest blogging is a good way to do this -> on RELATED blogs!)

    Good luck!

I don't think you read the question at all. I said that I was thinking about purchasing a domain. Anyway, I bought it and will soon find out whether it was penalized or not.

Google says that if you search on your domain name and it doesn't appear at or near the top of the results, its a sign of a penalty

There's a typo in your graphic. The word UNTIL only has one "L". And DONT should be spelt DON'T

I currently use Atracta to check all of my sites daily. I would prefer not to have my sites blacklisted, even though my site is using good quality content I am not so trusting of the big G. :/
