Hi,
I own small website in Vienna,Austria.
We are specialized in taxi transfer to Vienna Airport.

Im allways trying to find resource for backlinks, like tourism websites but most of links I get are from web directories.

If I continue to build links mostly (90%) from directories will Google penalize me?

Definitely i believe there is a chance, try to add some social bookmarks, use fiverr and for 5$ you will get alot of them, mix them with forum backlinks and some blog commmenting and you will be fine

Those are horrible links. Do not listen to this advice.

It really depends on the quality of the directories.

I doubt you will get penalized. They may not help you rank much though.

aars14 is trying to help but I would not listen to that advice.

      Thank you MikeFriedman.

I know people on Fiver offer links from fake social bookmark accounts and i belive that Google can find out wich is fake profile.

But what is the problem with forum backlinks and some blog commmenting?

It really depends on the quality of the directories.
Well most of directories have pagerank 2 to 3,around 45%,page rank 3+ is around 35% and rest is page rank 1 - 2 and they are all free directories.
...They may not help you rank much though.
I read that free directory backlinks don't pass much value but in this bussines its hard to find other backlinks.

I studied my competition and their link profile is similiar to mine so submiting to free directories did help my rankings but Im not shure is it safe continue doing same thing and keep submiting to free directories.

Im not submiting under page rank 2 anymore.

PageRank of the domain of the directories doesn't matter much. I worry more about the PR of the page where my link will actually be. Outside of popular local directories, if they are auto-approve directories, I don't bother with them. I don't care what their PR is. They get spammed to hell if they are auto-approve.

As for blog and forum comments... They are trash for a real business. They look spammy as hell.

      Thanks again.
No they are not auto-approve directories,I try to find ones that take care of their content.

Well I did make mistake there.
If i look it like that most pages are page rank 0 and 1 but somehow it did help with rankings.

As for blog and forum comments... They are trash for a real business. They look spammy as hell.
      What do You suggest then?

We drive people to airport and back, its no rocket science.
I cant start blog on that subject or do guest bloging becouse there is not much to write about.

    Hey,

If I were you I would first get some "NAP" listings. Read more about NAP here: What Does NAP Stand For And Does It Help Local SEO? | SEO FAQs | Blue Corona

... and then I would start contacting all the websites/businesses that are somehow related to "taxi" or "vienna". Simply start sending out emails saying that you have this service blabla and how should they (webmasters) benefit from adding your link to their site (try to say it in one sentences).

Another way is to try to check your competitor links. Maybe you can get some good ideas from there as well. Furthermore, you could also try to find broken links on the resources pages (for example) and then send email to webmaster saying that:

    "Hey,

I saw you linked to taxi-in-vienna.com, but the site is down. I have similar service, but my site is up and running.

Let me know if there is anything I can do for you, free taxi ride or smth "

    Wouldn't you do a taxi ride for a PR4 link? I would

E: Of course don't use the exact email, since I wrote it quite randomly, but I bet you get the idea. Oh =#(¤/! it sucks writing from cellphone

      Hello,

If I were you I would first get some "NAP" listings.
      I done all that.
      NAP listings:

      Yelp
      Qype
      Herold
      Stadtbranchenbuch
      Tupalo

Another way is to try to check your competitor links
I analized my competition well and I used all the ideas, now Im on my own.

...you could also try to find broken links on the resources pages (for example) and then send email to webmaster saying...
I saw you linked to taxi-in-vienna.com, but the site is down.
How can I find resource page if resource is linked to competition page, taxi-in-vienna.com (as in your example) wich is down?

I don't mean to sound disrespectful but it look like you only made post so you can get link for Blue Corona, you are even using page title for anchor as it says in book.

So this takes us back to why are forum backlinks bad? - as MikeFriedman told me.

Nvm, I just tried to help you.

I'm not associated with corona in any way, I just searched for "nap in seo" and it turned out first. And FYI, this forum turns those links to page titles (try it yourself )

        Good luck with your biz.

Advice about "NAP" listings. is ok but that other didnt make sence so I presumed You do this only for backlinks.

            Hi patco,

you should try to make a mixture of backlinks -> like blog commenting, article and forum marketing
As You can read from MikeFriedman post,

As for blog and forum comments... They are trash for a real business. They look spammy as hell.
He's advice is - no blog comments.

May I ask,why do You think blog commenting is ok and not spammy as MikeFriedman say?
