changing meta descriptions

Hi,
I have a silly question about changing meta descriptions and the way it's perceived by google. Are changes of meta descriptions in the online store bad for seo? Will google have a problem with that?
I have an online store that I just started and I'm learning about copy writing very intensively. As meta descriptions are very important from the marketing perspective I want them to be done as good as I can. Right now I have a choice to write the ones I can or just leave it blank to have magento populate default metas.

Any advise will be well appreciated,
Thx,
JJ

The click-through rate on your links in Google search will depend on title and meta description as perceived by the user. So clear and concise meta description is important.

Thank you for your reply - I'm aware of it, but my question is if changing it will impact my ranking in a negative way? If I'll change all descriptions in my store? This is how it will probably have to be unless I'll leave it blank until a copywriter (or me) will write them properly again.

Meta descriptions are not used for rankings, and I have yet to see solid
evidence that any description there does any good for click through rate.
Your title, and a snippet from your site is so much better.

Besides, your description can work both ways. It could get someone
NOT to click on your site.

Why not leave it up to google to decide what to show the searcher at
hand? They pick stuff relevant to the searcher, time, place, etc.
Google wants to show relevant sites, andd have people click on them.

Look at the way the WF does it. They actually put the first sentence
of the thread as the meta description...

Google will not always use your description anyway.

Thank you. I believe I'll simply write metas the way I see them now.
I understand your point with letting google decide but I personally think that in case of e-commerce store it's important to give user best possible description of the product you're selling. Right now it starts with "your basket is empty" which might not be the best way to sell a product.
Anyways - many thanks for your input.

          Regards,
          JJ

eCommerce? Think about opening multiple tabs and not remembering WHY you opened that specific tab and just clicking to close it with 0 regard. People compare products and it's a factor. Also, see what your most direct competitors are doing - shamelessly copy not to fall behind. No shame in it.
