SAPE wasn't hit by Penguin 2.0, but Matt Cutts warned about the payday loans niches and especially in google.co.uk.

Since the update, the search for 'payday loans' which was one of the key searches that was meant to be affected, has actually got worse.

If you search for Payday Loans on Google.co.uk now, there's not one site on the first page that is reputable and got there naturally, they're all spammy redirect sites. I don't know how they are ranking these sites so quickly, seems as quick as they're taken down, another one replaces it. How can they rank so fast for such a competitive keyword?

Makes a complete mockery of their update IMO

If an entire niche is crap sites, one of the crap sites has to be #1 in the SERPs.

        What other option is there?

It's not about whether payday loans are right or wrong, or about the charges, I couldn't care less, it's about how Penguin is failing massively in an area that was specifically mentioned.

I was asking how these websites are ranking so fast, it's like they are one step ahead of whatever Google releases as they are being put up quicker than Google are taking them down. In all of the other niches I have looked into, it only seems to happen in Payday Loans.

Not all of the payday websites are crap, there seem to be some good (better?) ones there, but waaaaaay down the rankings.

Haha I had to share this, there is payday website I just came across called mugabewagedayadvance.co.uk - when you click on it it takes you to another website called Sky Loans.

But seriously, Mugabe loans? He must be branching out...

Well that doesn't make any sense, there are plenty of reputable websites out there - why are the likes of Wonga, QuickQuid, Money Supermarket etc not showing?

Every single site is a URL that redirects somewhere else

      Really, reputable?

Don't you don't think those 30% interest rates are sleaze ball tactics?
      • Wonga = 38% interest rate
      • QuickQuid = 29.50% interest rate
      • Money Supermarket = n/a

I didn't see a payday interest rate for Money Supermarket, If they do payday loans it's most likely around a +30% interest rate. I also didn't read the fine print on those payday loans, which I'm sure is where the traffic gets shafted (even more).

Like I said, the whole payday niche is crap, so your going to see crap pages ranked in Google SERPs, there's no other possible thing for Google to show besides crap, unless they show a blank web page when traffic searches for payday keywords.

What he means by reputable is they are licensed lenders or actual lead takers for payday loans, which are legal by the way.

You could say the same about almost every bank, every insurance company, every bar, and the list goes on.

We're talking about how a search engine is ranking spam sites that are not even lead collectors - just pure aff sites with thin content and spam links.

And you know it to. Enough of the mortality lesson Y.

Payday loans are discount overdraft fees. If banks lowered their overdraft fees to $10 then all payday loans would be out of business.

If you think payday loans are sleazy then call the banks the same. Banks charge around 4000% per year and that is about 10 times more than payday loans. There is a reason why they want to get rid of the payday loan businesses - they want to protect their 40 billiion dollar business and that is in the US alone.

You have a point there. I recall reading a little while back that banks make something like 40% of their profit (don't recall the exact figure) on overdraft fees and other fees. Banks act upset and act condescending to customers who acquire such fees, but truth be told they love 'em.
