Anybody else seeing WILD fluctuations in Adsense CTR and CPC this month?

My CTR has been pretty steady for the last few years and average CPC has gradually increased in my niche. But May has been a real rollercoaster with very unusual highs and lows in both categories.

I was just curious if anyone else was experiencing the same and any ideas what's up? A few days in particular my traffic was behaving like it wasn't being served with relevant ads.

So glad to be off the Adsense roller coaster. Just put it on a spreadsheet and look at the month to month averages - usually pretty consistent.

Forget about judging day to day, hour to hour - just sucks ass! Stressful waste of time. We quit Adsense all together after we did a 2 week test using CPA offers through ShareASale and Neverblue. We make 20% more with CPA.

    We're in finance though.

TZ, the thing I don't like about hosting CPA ads on my site is that I have to constantly monitor whether or not the offer is still active. I made pretty good money with CPA one month but then the offer disappeared and suddenly all my traffic was going off into oblivion. Although I don't make as much with Adsense, at least it's pretty much 100% passive. Sometimes I let months go by without doing anything with my site, but it still quietly ticks away.

However, if I could find the right offer(s) I would happily blast CPA to my email list since that has a small time window.

    dennis09, I like your sig

gamez4you, I guess it depends on the niche. April was my highest earning month ever with adsense.

My earnings literally set new highs every month, this started at the first of the year, before that the monthly earnings were very consistent. I'm not complaining or anything, just saying the money is way higher than usual (which was still very good money in the past). CTR is up on the same old layouts I've had for years.

Last night I passed the entire month of April 2013 for earnings & I still have exactly 1 week to go for the month of May. The thing is, I didn't change a single thing on my sites, so I guess my traffic is seeing even better ads than in the past few years.

yukon, I remember you talking about the money you made from Adsense for Feeds by changing the date on old evergreen posts. I miss having adsense on my feed, it often made more money than my site. Have you tried any other monetizing of your feed since Google ditched it?

No, I haven't done anything else with my Feedburner email list. I also stopped bumping old blog post, since all I was trying to do with the bumps was get traffic to look at the email page (Adsense).

I miss the extra Feedburner/Adsense money, but the increased earnings directly on the sites since the 2012 holidays has been even better than the Feedburner/email/Adsense. I still think those BIG Adsense arrows since Nov. 2012 has helped increase CTR on the web pages.

My feedburner email list is only about 300 people but when I post (or repost) daily it represents about 5% of my site's traffic, and that's targeted returning traffic who have taken action before (signed up for the emails). So it's not insignificant.

        Congrats on the increased earnings.
