Yo all.

Need some expert advice.. i have a forex website and in between my original articles, i have started to curate links from bloomberg that i find useful for my readers.. it will consist of about 300 words and then the link to the full article at bloomberg..

will this aid in my SEO or do the opposite?

I objective is for my website to be constantly updated .. hence the curation in between new original releases ...

thanks!

Thing is, your literally redirecting your own traffic away from your site over to Bloombergs site. Kinda defeats the purpose of doing the SEO IMO.

    • I wouldn't be too quick to draw that conclusion.

In my experience, high quality OBLs can have the effect of boosting your SERP position.

My unqualified reasoning for this effect is that Google needs to reward good OBL's otherwise PageRank in it's original/basic form would discourage people from linking out - which in turn would diminish the value of what PageRank is measuring - also good OBLs lead to lower direct bounces back to the SERPs.

In any case, whatever the reason may be for this positive ranking effect with good OBLs (something I've measured on my own sites in many ways), moving up to a position that increases your SERP CTR generally leaves you with more internal additional pageviews than you would have otherwise had.

The more important question for OP is, will his content curation increase his search engine traffic or not?

I suspect that in the long term, the answer will depend on how much 'value adding' he does, although with the current sophistication of Google's algorithms this may not be the dominating factor right now.

  • It shouldn't hurt you. I've seen stuff like this all the time.

    • I've seen a man who can swallow a sword.

The fact that I've seen this done without apparent side effects does not mean it's logical to assume that it's generally a good thing to do.

I've also seen many people park their cars in no-parking zones in the center of town on a Friday night, and later on I've seen the parking tickets on their windows.

Social proof is not the answer to everything.

You need to find a rational connection between the action and the result before you can be confident of issuing such advice.

  • yeah you're right.
This will be a stupid sucide. I would never do this mistake.

    • I have set the links to Bloomberg as new windows. So I am not losing traffic per se I guess... You see I hope to provide value too. I want to be a site folks go for forex related news ..
