Best SEO for extremely high competition keyword

Hi all,

working on SEO for a country/destination with approx 30 000 000 searches/month getting to the top is quite hard.

What is your best SEO tip for HIGHLY competitive keywords?

    Really, 30,000,000 searches per month?

    I guess your looking at global search results for every single Google country search? If so, I kinda doubt you'll (or anyone) rank #1 for all 100+ country SERPs.

      And this will NOT be enough.. He should find RELATED websites, also investigate at LEAST 100+ of his competitors and have AT LEAST 1 powerful backlink more than them and wait for an update, just after that you have a chance to be on 1st page for SO high competitive word!

    This is really very tough keyword to rank, highly competitive.

    I would say that maintain ratio of content creation and link creation too.

    My technique would be to analysis top competitors incoming links. Try to copy them and add additional but quality links. If competition is too high, then your result will come slowly.. but you need to be consistent with your efforts.

      Thank you all for your answers. I have made good investigation for the top 30 Google results for US and UK. Theese together stands for about 50% of the searches.

      Most of the websites (including the official ones (.gov)) has poor content and the SEO websites of the niche has much less and effortless content than my website. Most content rich websites in the niche has very bad SEO - not even on-page optimized. Therefore I think I have a chance of getting high results at least for long-tail keywords.

      Nr 1 commersial domain has about 1 000 000 backlinks from 3 000 domains.

    OP, you need to go back and do your keyword research again. You need to check the EXACT searches in Google's Keyword Tool. You are looking at BROAD searches which is useless.

    Your keyword is not getting 30 million searches a month. Check the exact search volume before you waste anymore time on this.

      Thank you for the alert. You are right. But exact word was still 20 000 000 globally but only 1,2 in US. About 10 million of the searches was from the geographical destination itself. To me it sounds like a good idea to try to rank high there by placing server in that country. Since almost everyone else is US located (including the official ones).
