So I was wondering if anyone had some good resources on how to improve CTR for adsense while using a wordpress site?

I'm more AdWords than AdSense but I have a few websites which run it and here are my tips:

Ad placement is key but varies hugely depending on your site.

For a blog, placing 1 ad in the header and one text ad at the bottom or each post has seen the best CTR in my expreience, for non-post pages, a sidebar image ad can be of slight benefit but your main target should always be your post pages.

For a non-blog, breaking up the content of the website can achieve the best results, take a look at Gas Bill Calculator to see what I've done. Initially, I ran only a sidebar ad then when I redesigned the website I created a break between the intro and the calculator and revenues have increased hugely.

Once again, in my experience I've found running fewer, better placed ads better for CTR than running more poorly placed ads. You'll likely find one particular ad will out-perform every other ad on any given page.

Ensure your ads are blended with the style of your website. Ad link color should match the link color of your site and text should match the font (where possible) and color of your websites font and color.

Experiment, experiment, experiment. Try different styles and ad types to find out which bring the best results and ensure your abide by the AdSense policy.

    I hope this helps.

If you asking for a website in your signature, then it is obvious that you don't use text/image ads, but only text ads. Switch to text/image ads for a bigger earnings.

The site in my signature is my first try at a site but it is still making me money. I tried image/text and image only. I found text out does both for me.

I've seen a lot of webmasters wondering about this and asking this very question. Actually, its a smart thing to do. You'll be amazed to know how much you can earn more by simply tweaking your website. Most of the webmasters focus on getting more traffic, completely ignoring the power of optimization. Besides, this is one thing which is totally in your control and you dont have to depend upon search engines or any other external source for this additional income.

Co-incidentally, I was working on a blog post about this since last one week. Top 5 things you can test/play with to optimize ad revenue and CTR:
    1. Ad Location
    2. Ad Size
    3. Ad Networks
    4. Ad Types/Designs
    5. Ad Pricing (CPM vs CPC)

Here is the post - Increase Ad Revenue which I wrote, It explains each point mentioned above in a more detailed manner.

I don't know which website you want to increase the ad CTR for, but if you can share a URL, I can try sharing a few testing ideas. Also, have you tried using a heatmap tool?

    Thanks,
    Ankit
