What did I do wrong??

I asked about this on the main part of the forum, and got some good advice, but everyone there told me not to rely on google for traffic (which I do agree with). But I would like to build my google traffic back up while attempting to get traffic elsewhere as well.

I am new to IMing. (Started an infertility blog about two years ago with the hopes to earn some additional income - I am a teacher and the pay sucks!) Have taught myself everything along the way, so I apologize in advance for any ignorance.

For the first year I had around 300 viewers a day pretty consistently. Then it spiked to around 800 a day (unfortunately this only lasted a couple of months), then it fell back to around 300. In the last couple of months the traffic has dropped to 100 or less viewers a day??!! Have no clue why (I know that some of my main keywords dropped in google, but why?). I know 300 viewers a month is not a lot, but I would like to at least be able to have what I know I can achieve (hopefully more of course).

My question is:

Would any of you be willing to take a quick look at my site and offer any advice for what I might be doing wrong?! Thanks in advance for any help.

The site has nothing to do with IMing....not trying to sell you anything...unless you are going through IVF .

    Checked your site...

    Two things:

Don't make blog comments and other similar low quality backlinks. Eventually you will get slapped since this only works for short-term projects.

Secondly. Your blog seems to have less value. I couldn't find anything interesting from it (maybe I'm biased). Your articles are short & boring. If you want to use this as you personal blog (to tell stories to your friends etc) then it could work, but then Google wouldn't like it much.

E: Actually looked more deeply into it and found that some of the posts are quite decent. So sorry about that.

Spend some time, create more valuable content. Add some social buttons and try to promote it on social media as well.

Open account in social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon, reddit, pinterest, sccopit and delicious and submit your every new post there.

When you are writing a new blog post, make it at least 450 words and make sure the post is highly informational so that your readers will always check your blogs.

Side by side, you should do some guest posting in high PR, relevant blog sites. It is one of the best ways to achieve some high quality backlinks .

sorry to say ...The back ground design is very bad for eyes, especially when you are scrolling the page down fast! It's nothing related with SEO, it's just my opinion.

I would love to do some guest posting but for some reason I have had a hard time finding sites that actually do guest post in my niche. I have contacted some sites and all of them said they don't do guest post or they did not answer at all. Any suggestions on how to get more interest in my offer??? Thanks.

Thanks, I do feel like there is quality content on my site. But I agree that not every post is quality, some of it is just updates on my story, which I do think the readers would appreciate more than you . You are right that I need to get more involved in social media, that is something I haven't really tried to tap into like I should. Thanks!

One more thing. When you are building links, try to build them naturally and by contacting with women who are trying to get pregnant or have had issues in the past. Ask them what they think about your product (give it out for free and ask them to write a review on their blog) or smth like that. If it's quality product and they do like it they will tweet about it, like/share it.. You know, all the women stuff.

I could imagine that this technique could work out pretty well.

I would also suggest you start looking for at least 2 or 3 sites that are high quality and considered authority sites to post your contents to regularly. These sites can be great substitutes for guest posting. Also, try to regularly share your contents to social media sites. This can help in your ranking as well.

Use facebook, twitter for making site popular and always target the relevant field such as- forum where women discuss about their pregnancy problems, blogs on pregnancy issues, medical web 2.0 sites, Ezine posting etc....This would give a strong boost to the SERP.

Find the authorities in your niche and start engaging with them. Write a guest post or start blog discussions with the these sites.

    That's what I would do.

I agree.., by doing valuable discussions you are adding more value to the content of that page, in turn, you may get nice link back to your site from that page, this is one of the best way to get referral traffic as well...

Everyone is mentioning guest posting, forums, etc. I am already a big presence on infertility forums and have been long before I ever heard of IMing. I do get some traffic from them, but I still need google.

As for the guest posting, I mentioned earlier that I would like to do this and have contacted some site owners with little response back. The ones that did respond said they "do not do guest post". Any suggestions on how to get people to actually post your work? Thanks!

I still have not had any responses suggesting what I might be doing wrong to have my search engine results go in the toilet???? I agree with everyone that I need to get involved in social media and that is my next plan of action, but I would still like to understand what I am doing wrong to have my traffic drop? ( I wasn't using any social media when I was getting the 800 or even the 300 views a day.)

One big mistake is that you have a link in your sig here on Warrior.

This means every post you've made here carries a spammy link from an unrelated forum - I'd start by removing that link, or at least no-follow it (if that's possible).

Create blogs on Free blog platforms and promote those blogs and drive traffic to those blogs - That will return you a nice link to your money site and referral traffic. Do not forget that, blogs on free blog platforms are easy to get rank and easy to promote - BUT..!!! you have to treat them like another $ site and promote it using white-hat methods.... It really needs lots of time and effort - but it worth... You really don't have to rely on Google at the same time, Google cannot find a reason to ignore you on its search result....

    Hey Brit,

Here are my thoughts on website traffic... It's really not worth anything. You can get 10,000 visitors a day and still not make a single dime.

Have you considered paid traffic? Probably not because you would be losing money if you paid for your blog traffic right? I would suggest finding an offer or product to promote and focusing on that.

Some people say "keywords" but really what you need is a product first... a way to make money.

Once you have that you can buy as much traffic as you want. I get 5-10k visitors a day to some of my sites and the sites do nothing but promote a single product. The reason I can afford to keep buying traffic is because they are profiting.

Maybe this advice isn't worth much to you, perhaps I'm off base. But the point is... make sure you are focusing on the right things and you wont worry about what you're doing wrong.

I am promoting a clickbank product, that I know can convert. My conversion rate is typically around 3%. The problem for me IS MY TRAFFIC, and maybe my clickthrough rate as well. The more traffic I get, the more sales I make.

You are right that I am NOT going to pay for traffic. I am pretty desperate for extra money and cannot take the chance of paid traffic right now. If I could get the site earning a little more consistent money....then I would be willing to reinvest a little into paid traffic. But until then I need to get back up in the serps and make some more sales. Any suggestions on how to do that??

Hi Brit, I appreciate that you read my post, thanked it, and gave me your thoughts. So, I'm going to see if I can help you out even more.

If you wont pay for the traffic, the site might not be worth your time.

I've made good money w/ ClickBank so I think I can offer sound advice on this.

In fact, I've purchased LOTS of traffic to CB Products.

Here is what I would say to your concerns...

It sounds like you already know what you need to do. You need to increase traffic and CTR. I can tell you that your conversion rate is actually on par with what I've experienced direct linking without any type of presell.

So, your website is really just redirecting traffic, it's not necessarily doing anything to help sell the product.

Not a bad thing, any type of money is good right?

I think you need to get yourself into a position where you would be willing to buy the traffic. So there are two conversion points you would focus on... hopefully you can follow my logic.

The first entry point is coming to your site. So regardless of how you do that whether it's buying articles, buying backlinks, or spending time to create videos on YouTube somehow there is an expense on getting people to your site (time or money) in my mind it's all money. Especially since there is opportunity cost in investing your time into activities that don't give the greatest return.

Okay, so you have them on your site now what is the CTR to the product? You didn't mention that figure, but it if your conversion rate of people clicking links to the product is only 3% my guess is it's low.

A good landing page should give you at least 30% CTR with the hope of hitting somewhere around 50-70% (yes it is possible). Are you using a landing page?

Where are you directing people... if it's just to an article, maybe you should do a popup on your own site that goes to a more direct landing page that is made specifically to presell the product.

Okay, now the second conversion point is the number of people that click your link that follow through and buy the product.

Here is the deal Brit... If you can optimize both of these points then you will have a pretty good idea of what the visitor value is. Now, as long as you can buy traffic for lower than the cost of your visitor value (what it costs you to get a visitor to your website) than you can BUY THE VISITORS ON DEMAND. At this point, traffic isn't really an issue anymore.

Did you know that the ads at the top of a Google or Bing search get as much as 15% of the overall search volume for a keyword? That can be a pretty heavy traffic flow for a popular product. I've seen hundreds even thousands of clicks a day from some CB products which resulted in making hundreds of dollars in profit.

I am not trying to talk you into buying traffic... But if we are on the same page still then maybe this post will help you achieve your goals in some way.

    Here are a couple suggestions:

    1. Look at your cpanel logs for traffic during this time. What was different between your first 300 a day year and your 800 a day months.

Note where traffic came from and what keywords along with how many clicks to your site on those keywords. Find out what is different.

You may have had a couple keywords that made it to first page that then dropped back due to some algorythm or something you did or changed. Or perhaps it was a forum sending you more traffic and then that post of theirs dropped off the first page.

Some times you can hit on the answer that way. Some of us don't keep track of our traffic sources well enough, myself included some times.

If you find this so, then duplicate what caused more traffic if possible, or write more articles on those keywords.

    2. If you have not, look at the top couple pages of mommy blogs, toddler blogs, family blogs (if you have not). Many of them talk about pregnancy or wanting to get pregnant or being infertile.

A lot of them do more of a cooperation thing than a competition thing, and you may be able to find one or two that will take an article or a paid banner for not too much. A lot of them refer back and forth to each other, once they get known.

    Jeannie Crabtree

P.S. you can put your url in your post and not in your sig file, and then it won't be on every post you make here. as said before, Warrior Forum is not an on topic forum for you and Google likes us to have same theme/niche links now days.
