"TO SEO" or "NOT TO SEO" before site redesign and move? That is the question!

I have an online jewelry company. Although we have been successful without doing much SEO work (working primarily off social media), we are ready to begin an SEO overhaul. However, our current e-commerce company doesn't offer the full functionality we now require. We will be switching E-commerce hosts and rebuilding the website in the not-so-distant future. Perhaps 3-9 months. So, the question is, should we go ahead and optimize our site now or wait until we move. I don't mind doing the work. The real question is will it be beneficial to go ahead and optimize it now or do we risk some detrimental effect when making the switch? Should be prioritize the redesign and move (which could be costly and time consuming) over SEO? If it is suggested to SEO the current site, are there elements of SEO that is good to do now and others to wait?

Thank you for any insights or suggestions from the experts. All are GREATLY appreciated.

If you don't mind working on optimizing your pages (on-page SEO) again, after the redesign, you can start the SEO again. This is the part you'll have to do again, after you get the new design from the designer.

All the link building, trust building & authority building efforts will continue to give benefits after the re-design.

If I were you, I'd start working on creating content on my site and building authority for that. The move/shift/redesign will hardly cause any damage to this.

Great Advice, Thank you very much. When you mention creating content on the site, do you mean optimizing the content we already have on the site, or making blog articles, or something else?

Also, regarding building authority for that content, is that basically link building?

Thanks again for all your advice

If you can optimize it now and take backups and if you can restore settings when you are move back, that is not goona hurt you (If your SEO settings are properly done - I mean the on-page SEO like optimizing your title, meta descriptions, meta keywords, content, Website Structure, URL structure and etc)
