Has anyone here used google disavow tool successfully?

I submitted a disavow list to google webmaster 3 weeks ago, and I haven't seen any bad backlinks being de-indexed and my rankings have stayed the same.

This was my format when I sent in my disavow list:
domain:totalbeauty.com
domain:thesouptv.com
domain:authorstream.com

Can anyone give some advice?

Thanks!

  • Any advice would be great
  • I don't think they would de-index the links for you.

  • Yes, I have used the disavow tool and was successful in removing an unnatural links penalty. It took FOREVER but I know why now.

First, I had a manual penalty on just one of my sites. Since I know what I did differently on that one site as compared to the others, it was a bit easier to figure out which links were holding me back. However, this also meant I had to file a reconsideration request, too.

I did spend a significant amount of time getting links removed before adding the disavow tool to the mix.

The first two times I submitted my disavow file and reconsideration request, I forgot to encode the disavow file as UTF-8 which is outlined in the Google Disavow Tool instructions.

The third time I submitted the disavow file and reconsideration request I coded the disavow file properly and the reconsideration request was approved within five days. (I JUST got the approval May 23rd.) I started seeing some minor improvement in rankings and traffic about three days later. Only a few pages have been recrawled since the penalty was revoked so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll see additional improvements.

You won't see the links on your disavow file get deindexed. The links won't get removed from your Google Webmaster Tools link reports. It's only purpose is to tell Google to consider the links on the file as "nofollow" and you'll get no indication at all that Google has agreed to do so - just to make things a bit tricky.

Are you sure that you need to do a disavow file and aren't dealing with something else that's impacting your rankings?

    • Well, that happened to me also. I saw improvements. But, do you think this small raise can be considered a "penalty lift" ? I mean, it seens to be so little improvement in ranking, at least for my site was almost useless.

How hard was you site hit by Penguin? And how much is it now raising after using the disavow tool ?

    • Is this UTF-8 that Important?
I myself never used it on the two files I submited.

I tried to use an online encoder
And what I realised is - The file doesnt change anything after being encoded ?!!
Are you sure its important ?
  • Disavow tool is a request for removing links but it is not guaranteed that your links would be removed..
