Google Analytics Average Position Confusion

Hello everyone,

My Google Analytics account shows a slew of search terms that my website (IPHONE WATER DAMAGE SPOT - water damage repair guides, waterproof case reviews and more!) is showing up for. However, when I search these terms (even in Chrome Incognito to avoid favoritism) I cannot find my site. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!

  • G31ter,

I can be difficult if not impossible to recreate metrics in regular search (even when you are logged out of Google) to mimic what you see in your analytics account or even in third party software programs. Analytics takes data from web master tools if you have it linked and from parameters in Google URL’s in SERPs to generate its reports. Updates like the venice update and others have worked very hard to try to deliver results based on user location and social media networks like Google plus influence the metrics of searchers whose data is appearing in your analytics account. Even though you can control what results Google shows you, its difficult to recreate what Google has shown others whose accounts (or lack thereof) you do not have direct access to or control over.

So just because your site is not showing up in the same average position for you does not mean the same is true for someone else somewhere else in the world.

    Best,

    Shawn
