Link building strategy...help

Hi guys

After a bit of advice, I've just released my newest website and I've put a massive effort into making it Google friendly post-penguin as I do rely on search engine traffic a lot.

Onto link building, I must get this right from the start and need a little bit of guidance. Here's my plan so far:

1. Get a list of 10/15 keywords I want to rank for
2. Write 20 unique articles of between 250 - 400 words each relating to my niche, naturally dropping in 3 of my keywords into each article
3. Link my three keywords back to my money site
4. Every week, post 5 articles on 5 different Web 2.0 sites
5. Backlink check my competitors and use the sites they are backlinking from, post 5 articles onto 5 different sites.
6. Use my other articles to guest post on relevant blogs in my niche.
7. Rinse and repeat weekly.

Am I on the right tracks here? I'm at a loss to know how much is too much or not enough, but I do believe in quality over quantity - I also don't want to spend all week backlinking!

Also if anyone has any guidance on how to find Web 2.0 sites that would be a good starting point!

Thanks guys

  • Usually the places where you can just "submit" your article are very-very weak. In fact, they can either be spammed to death article directories or web2.0's that you just mentioned. Those links are extremely low quality and should be avoided.

For your information, web2.0's with 1 article (and without any additional backlinks) can take weeks to get indexed by google. This also means they are not worth the hassle... But it might work for extremely easy SERP.

How to find web2.0 sites? Just type into google "web 2.0 sites list" and you will find the list for sure.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Sadly web 2.0's without a proper tier 2 strategy are a waste of time. Everything else looks ok but make sure to diversify your anchors.

    • I'm also having the same problem as above. Could you maybe explain a little more on proper tier 2 & tier 1 strategy?

I currently create web 2.0 sites as if they were my money sites. Multiple pages, videos, pic's consistent blog post's ect.

What are some other good quality backlinks you can create for tier 1 and tier 2 links? I watched the Matt Woodward tier link building, but he mainly uses software to do it all and a majority of his tier 1 -- 2.0 sites were automated except for the 5-15 he would manually create. So I'm kind of at a loss of what would be a good tier link building structure, cause isn't the automated 2.0's for a tier one basically just spam and poor quality?

I'm also about quality over quantity which is why I do every thing manual, but I mean just focusing on quality in hopes you'll get natural backlinks could take months and months and months possibly years to finally rank.

  • Sounds like a plan, just ensure you do the guest blogging on good blogs... they will almost always pass higher authority then simple web2.0 at least in my niche. Eventually you want a few good high PR backlinks coming from top level domains.

    2. Write 20 unique articles of between 250 - 400 words each relating to my niche, naturally dropping in 3 of my keywords into each article
Do you mean on article directories? Where are these going?

your plan sounds a lot like the plan i am using for one of my new sites i released a week ago. Im guessing your new site you cant implement new content i am guessing it is static content?

Just remember to mix up your keywords a bit even if you said you have 40 they cant be exact match across the board everytime, so come up with generic, long tail and brand keywords.

    • Thanks for the replies!

Could you elaborate on a tier 2 link building strategy, what does this mean?

Point taken about web 2.0 sites - thanks.

Regarding the blogging, I want to keep the guest posts relevant so I will only guest post on blogs within the same niche - I understand this will hold more value? This massively limits my link building potential, but there's little point in me blogging on a site that's nothing to do with my niche?

If I write 20 articles, I mean I will use some of them for guest blogging and some to submit to article directories?

I can implement new content onto my site, I've got RSS feeds coming in from 2 quality sources, as well as a blog - it's only a wordpress site, I can change it up as and when I want.

      Thanks!
  • You can also do link outreach.

E-mail a ton of people that's catered to your list. (Be prepared you WILL get rejected most of the time, but you're gaining a relationship + there will be those that wouldn't mind adding you). I'm sure you know how to find blogs/sites. Find those, get their contacts and start e-mailing away.

    Example:

    Hi (site owner),
My name is XX and I’m reaching out to you on behalf of xxxxx.com, a leader in xxxxxxxx. You may have heard of us, but if not you can learn more about our/my Web site.
I’m contacting you because we see your blog as a high-quality source for xxxx and would love to work with you. Based on your xxxx features, we think you xxxxxxx and therefore would be a great representation of our brand. I’d like to propose placing a link to our site on your blog (insert either: on the sidebar or with a post).

Thank you for your time and consideration!

    Best,
    xx
    xxxxxx.com
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Yep,

Sorry to say it but Godmode is right - the OPs proposed strategy is weak at best and wouldn't make a dent in any niche with competition.

Just trying to get links by blasting articles out there worked a few years ago but not these days.

you need to use your brain and be more creative.

    • Sorry, I didn't read that comment as 'your strategy is weak at best'??

  • Yes, the OP's strategy is going to be too time consuming for too little return. Tiered link building does work, but you need automation to make it manageable. Building your own private high PR blog network is probably the strongest way to do things, but it's expensive, so you need to know what you're doing to see a good return on it.
  • Create blogs with unique content and promote those (Of course Web 2.0 can be used to create blogs) - But you have to use those web 2.0 without spamming, I am sure there are lots of bloggers using web 2.0 sites and evening earning money only with blogging - So, we should follow up their ways and promote the blogs at the same time get nice backlinks. I know, it is really takes lots of time and hard work to do.
  • In my opinion, guest blogging is more effective than article submission.Make sure the blogging site is high quality and relevancy.
  • Why only use Web2.0 properties to submit your articles. Link diversification plays an important role now. Why not use Press Release, Article Directory, PDF Sharing Sites or Slideshare.com kind of sites and then Squidoo or Hubpages.

Also Matt Cutts from Google Search Engine Team, suggest to participate in the community by answering questions may be on Forum or Yahoo answers.

Moreover, Videos can be the best backlinking strategy right now. And creating videos has never been so easy as now.

    • Impatcher i agreed with your post. Now a days Video marketing is the main tool. i don't like to bother my self to make some tiered links. manually i was created 23 Web 2.0 High PR sites and Internally linked to the main site.

Each Web 2.0 Contains 2 backlinks that one is to main site and Next backlink to other Web 2.0 After that Press Releases to Web 2.0 as 2 tiered links. Still now no more good rankings at all.! Wrote fresh 23 articles around 250 ^ words. Btw After clashes Penguin 2.0 No more rankings actually.
