Linking to Amazon Products

In a product review of 1000+ words:

(i) How many links to amazon site should be given in the post, and

(ii) What kind of the links should be: Text or image or text/image.

I am using amazon created html code links. Is it the right way to do it. I have noticed when I click on such links, the browser leaves my site & takes me to amazon site. Is it ok or is there any way that amazon site be opened in a separate window.

  • a couple of links,2-3 links is normal...don't overdo it because google hates filled up with affiliate links...keep that in mind
  • Michael's right. 2-3 links work fine for me. Just make at least one link is above the fold (i.e. the user doesn't need to scroll down to see it). Placing second link just before last paragraph has worked well for me with a prefix something like
'productname at [discount]%off on Amazon: link' then a quick conclusion in end.
And additionally, it's not a bad idea to make one image link to your affiliate page as well.

And no there's no need of opening a new tab or browser, the way it's working for you is fine.
  • I like to go with 3 - 4 on something that size and usually space it out so that as soon as you scroll past one link the next link comes in at the bottom of the fold
  • I would probably go with 1 link.

In that way your site would look more legit (not stuffed with affiliate links)
  • I generally go with 1 link at the top, (usually a picture of the product) a link somewhere in the middle, and a link at the end.

    • Similar. I go 1/4 down and 3/4 down. I always make sure there is a link visible to the user at all times though.
