How Long Does it Take a Blog Post to Rank?

There's no simple answer to this question but, if you are using the full facilities of the YOAST plugin then your new post should be spidered by Google very quickly. Pay attention to all the SEO ranking that the YOAST plugin checks and you're good to go.

I've had a post rank within a few hours of Publication, and sometimes minutes (but that's on a blog which already has plenty of highly ranked posts).

If your blog is new, however, it can take time before you start rising up the ranking pages. It helps to have other blogs that link to your posts from posts/pages with similar keywords. Consider guest blogging, for example, or the facilities provided by services such as Repost.Us, as well as linking from your articles on Squidoo, Hubpages, Facebook and other social media sites.

There's more to blogging than just choosing the right keywords and writing articles, I'm afraid!

How to tell page rank?

Although there are many sites/programs which appear to tell you how your page is ranking, none of them IMO are accurate.

The only way to be sure about the page ranking level of your post is to use Google Analytics. Then you can see the URL that your readers were on when they found your post/page. That is called the 'referrer' and any Google sources will have the page number shown.

You can also use Google Webmaster Tools. Go into 'Search Queries' and you'll see the keywords people have used to find your post. Click on a keyword and Google will show you the page position in the search results.

However these tools only work if your post is already being found by people. Use the Jetpack plugin to see your daily traffic using Google Analytics graphically.

If you're not sure your post is indexed, type

Site:yourURL

into Google Search box and see what's listed there.

If you have a lot of posts to look through, use Advanced Search and limit the date range to recent. Sometimes it will take many days before a page shows up, especially from a new blog.

Not more than 24 hours if your ss domain is well optimized.

Good! That's a start.

Keep creating content. Basically every post should get pinged and will raise the interest of the Search Engine's spider bots to come and look at your site.

One more thing:

Create a YouTube video around your main keyword and post it on your blog.

That will get it indexed faster and, if people are searching for your keywords and there isn't much competition, you'll get traffic faster too.

With regard to pinging, if you update posts frequently use

to avoid over-pinging (rather like crying 'wolf')!
