    I am really not trying to be sarcastic or patronising when I say this but the best back links occur naturally over time as a result of providing value...always have and always will

    But seeing though you asked the question...from the list above I would have to go with Web 2.0 providing they are placed in well thought out pages which are rich with great content - watch your anchor text when creating them and maybe try a few other outlets such as video marketing

    I think web 2.0 sites are the best places now to get backlinks. But it is also important to post unique contents on them. Web 2.0 sites are very powerful and backlinks from those sites can increase the ranking of a site very quickly.
    Also, do not forget about guest posting. It is also a great way to get direct traffic and good quality backlinks from high traffic blogs.

    Web 2.0. social networks and article directories out of the ones the OP posted. You can get contextual backlinks from these.

    Obviously links on high PR pages from authority sites are the best to get, but very hard to get. If you can afford your own High PR blog network then you can replicate this yourself, but very expensive to do.

    Guest blogging is performing good these days but it is a little hard to find related blogs and then request if your blog post is approved... here you can vary your anchor text and it would look more natural, you would get some traffics too if you choose some quality blogs.

    Anything that is natural and isn't spammy. I still like social bookmarking and blog comments just for the fact that it still works in driving traffic to your site.

    The absolute best backlink you can get is one that brings you traffic. When building backlinks, think of it as marketing...you want people to your site, that is the goal. If you build backlinks with the purpose of generating more traffic you will never be at risk of being hit by an algo update.

      The best backlinks yesterday, today, and tomorrow, are all the
      same. We are talking backlinks, right? Because the other
      stuff mentioned here, is not really backlinks, but more
      like "urls posted on various mediums." They are not
      the same as backlinks.

      Social signals are pretty good, but one cannot really call them
      backlinks when they are nofollow or invisible under a script.

      If you read this forum, you know what a good backlink is.

    According to me, it's important to get backlinks from DIFFERENT sources. Not only web2.0 or forum marketing, but also social bookmarking, social media, guest blogging, blog commenting, etc. If you do it right, you would see much more success than only have your website in web2.0 websites for example!

      That's not true at all.

      In fact, some of my sites have only:

      a) Links from articles (published by other webmasters)
      b) Links from resource pages

      That's all. I haven't built a single web2.0, haven't made a single blog comment etc. IMO, it's just a myth that someone made up.

      I mean.. Do I really have to make crappy links (web2.0, blog comments) to look natural?!

    Worthless list really as they all have zero value.

    Only the bookmarking and article directories can be of some value as they at least pass a page that has pagerank which is not the case with web2.0's but even then, you will only enjoy that juice for seconds or at it's best minutes cause they get spammed so hard.

    You can better focus on buying high PR domains or buying blog posts at such domain if you want to have any chance to rank.

    I find doing a google search in the same industry, but not the same keywords as you're just increasing your competitions rank by commening on their site, and then commenting on the ones that rank high. You can search for only blogs so there will be higher chance of commenting allowed.

    None of them are good backlinks. When trying to build good backlinks think of things that can't be spammed. Guest posting is a great one, can't spam that unless the owner allows it.

    The more something is spammed the less value Google places on it, that's why forum signatures, blog commenting, etc. don't hold as much weight as they used to.
