The death of Backlinking services ?

I think the days of hiring back linking services to send out hundreds if not thousands of automated links in the form of blog commenting, forum commenting, tweeting commenting signatures, etc..etc..is on a complete downward spiral.

Google has made it extremely clear they will ruthlessly pound you butt for doing this.

Yeah, I am guilty as much as anyone as I got caught up in the frenzy 3 or 4 years ago. I hired numerous of these type services to get as many links to my blogs as possible with all these automated spam commenting at forums and blogs.

I thought this was a 'short cut' to get higher in the rankings and more traffic to my sites and ultimately more income.

Do not get me wrong I think there is some validity in outsourcing good writers to make some well thought out comments on Educ. or Gov. sites and other high quality ones. It will cost you though.

But frankly, it is amazing to me that some of these seemingly well respected Warrios are still peddling their spam back linking junk in WSOs.

And the newbies as well as experienced IMers are still taking the bait.

Folks, Google has put the hammer down and has made it clear that it will wave its wand of destruction to those who take this seemingly easy way to get to the top.

It is plainly not working anymore. On the contrary it is hurting people !

And much like myself many our getting major penalties for using these junk services.

As Paul Meyers might say Stick with old school. Great content and offering great tools many which are free to his readers.

And also maybe adding some articles writing at EZA and Goarticles to get some
direct traffic as well google juice does not hurt. Building a Syndication can be quite effective in this regard too.

I have had success with interlinking between similar themed blogs that I own !

Finally, Guest blogging in quality and high authority sites is an awesome way to build your online business. Probably one of the best right now . it cannot be ignored and it will alone get you some really quality traffic and google juice; probably more than any other forms of manuel linking to your sites and it can be considered one of the best. Just ask the folks at highly acclaimed copyblogger !.

All this is pretty much what I am doing and it is paying off. Pretty simple but effective.

Google says no shortcuts so I think it might be wise to ignore some of these WSOs that people still promote with this automated back linking crap !

To you newbies take heed from what I did when I was one myself. 'There aint no thing as free lunch' !

Given that my directory, my wiki and my blogs are being spammed (unsuccessfully) at an ever increasing rate, backlinking services are far from dieing.

These types of methods were never sustainable.

Using clean SEO methods that Google favors has always been the right way to build backlinks.

Those of us who have a team that does this know how effective building backlinks can we to ranking a website.

If you aren't seeing success with backlinks, you are doing it wrong or against Google TOS.

Content-based linkbuilding will never die. I am not talking about article backlinks. That method has been abused and will probably die in the near future. I am talking about guest blog posts using original and high quality posts. You must get them published at high quality, AUTHORITY blogs in your NICHE. Since there is a high level of editorial intervention, Google's concerns are taken care of.

I agree to a point, backlinking has changed hardcore, back in the day it was all about getting as many links as you can disregarding quality, then things started to change and now quality and relevancy were important, and now, it's good quality or die. Buying Backlinks is not necessarily bad anymore, you just should only buy links and services that YOU would do yourself if you had the time / resources. I think the statement you made "I think the days of hiring back linking services to send out hundreds if not thousands of automated links in the form of blog commenting, forum commenting, tweeting commenting signatures, etc..etc..is on a complete downward spiral." is also not true. Think about it, things are changing sooo much that these companies have to adapt and learn what works and what doesn't work. This is leading to better quality, more relevant SEO work being done so these companies are charging more because it's a lot more work.

Have you ever ran a big budget AdWords Ad, and at the same time ran large spammy backlinks campaigns? I am not going to lie, back in the day when any link counted, I did this, and it seemed when I had a Google Ad running I was "immune" to getting dropped in rankings. The outcome? I ran my Google Ad AND did cheap backlink campaigns until I was number one, then stopped my Ad.....Still number one this day for that keyword and turned the Ad off 2 years ago.

Up to about a year ago, I was using several of these services with some decent success, but the game has really changed and we are having to back and revise things to keep rank, etc.

I agree with PROmotions that although the "bulky" services might be going away, backlinks still work, but require some actual targeting and thought now.

Its all about "looking" natural now! (anyone have any of those natural link programs, please let me know .

Agreed as to the general consensus that back links are not dead, after all the internet is a series of sites, networks, linking to one another. The means by which these links are achieved is what's in question, after all, every businesses has to promote itself, business is engagement. To me it's like advertising, bad ads don't get much ctr or conversion or high ctr and no conversion, it's the quality of your message and medium where you share it that will make the difference in your business.

What a beautiful post. But my own view is more simple.

The bulky junk software crap worked. For those that thought ranking for 2000 pm search volume words was a big deal. Truth be told, it would never have taken much more than a decent page to rank it anyway. So loads of people hopped on board and some made a little, and some didn't.

The private(public) blog networks worked. For those that thought ranking for 20000 pm search volume words was a big deal. Truth be told, it would never have taken much more than a decent page and a few good guest blog posts to rank it anyway. So loads of people hopped on board and some made a little, and some didn't.

Private(Really Private) Blog networks still work. For those that think ranking for 2000000 pm search volume words is a big deal. Truth be told, it would never rank without such networks. So loads of people hopping on board. Some will make a little. Some won't.
