Competing with Google Local search

Those of you who have national online businesses, how do you compete with local businesses? Since searchers often get the local sites before they do the national ones, how do you get your website to come up first (by first I mean #1 or at least first page)?

Thanks

For some searches this won't be possible, unless you create a page or listing for each location.

In the case you want traffic from those locations, your best bet is paid traffic.

Show up anywhere you want, anytime you want, for any keywords you want.

    Can't beat that, right?

  • MHWSO,

I agree with JR. In some circumstances Google is just going to show the local results first based on the users location. The Venice update made it so that localized results show up for users when they are more relevant.

    More on that here,

For the most part, you just have to make sure your site is optimized really well and that you get people sharing your content a lot. In that regard, you may be able to outrank results of businesses that maybe aren’t that involved and simply rank because of their location and a business page.

    Hope that helps,
