Are ads within content hurting rankings?

Hi,

I have heard that ads inserted where the content wraps around the ad might get you a ranking penalty.

Has anyone encountered this? I'm thinking of trying it.

    Yes, unlikely to cause any issues, because the crawler ignores your ad code or any other javascript.

    If you load too much ads on your webpage, it will definitely hurt your ranking. There should be a balance between the content and ad, so your visitor get some useful information from your website. If not 'Bounce rate' of your site will increase which will again affect your ranking also.

    I always advise my clients not to have ads/aff links above the fold, google uses this factor to determine doorway sites...

    I was also thinking of this, the ads should be placed in heading, bottom, sidebar etc.. if you are inserting ads between two paragraph then Adsense would easily know this and you would known as greedy.

    How would you feel when your TV program shows advertisement after 30 sec. when program started, it gives distraction and you won't feel good, if the ad is given before starting the program then it is good, or at the end.. or the program has passed few minutes.

    People are reading information on your site, and then they see your ad while he didn't complete reading then it doesn't give good impression.
