Did I do something wrong?

Hello Warriors,
When I do a Google search for mysite.com nothing comes up. However, a site: mysite.com search shows a few of my pages at the bottom of the SERP. Neither my homepage or any of my articles show up. Have these pages been deindexed or does deindexing mean the entire site has been removed from Google? My friend indexed his site today and the site already shows up as the number one result for a search for his-site.com. Should this be a concern of mine?
