Location Issue When Doing Keyword Research

Hi all,

Im just starting out in Internet Marketing. I have done a lot of reading and think i have a decent process in place im ready to follow through on.

My first issue is, when i do competition analysis a lot of the pages ranked on the first page of google are based in Ireland. Which is the country i live in. So for a keyword i will be shown that competition is low because there is some small Irish site in the same niche, but if anyone outside Ireland searches that term they will probably see a different result and i want to be competing in the broader market. I obviously need to have access to a global search result, or at least select a country such as America or UK with a big market. I hope this makes sense.

Is there a way of getting around this? I am considering buying Market Samurai, but from the research i have done Google Chromes' SEO Quake shows a lot of the same data.

Really appreciate your advice.

Tom

If you are using local google search then it will show you most Ireland results.. try using google.com/ncr and see the result. To enter into broader/wider market, I think you should build more links from sites outside your country...

Have you looked into any VPN's? I use one and it lets me switch servers (locations) on the fly. May be worth looking into if you check your rankings often. (Or if you travel / use a laptop on the go and need the added security.)

It sounds like Google is displaying local websites to your country which may say that your niche has some local component. If you want to look at results from different countries you need to change your computer ip address to do so. I have used hidemyass.com to check out different location in the U.S. there are plenty of proxies to choose from. You can also try out free proxies to check it out.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

The thing is you have to optimize for your location as well as for global audience... so you need to keep doing SEO continuously and it would get optimized globally...but if the content is for any particular location and domain extension is for that location then the ranking would be higher for that location...... it doesn't mean that your keyword doesn't have ranking globally, it would have ranking but it would be lower than your local ranking, if you do more SEO it would get optimized globally.
