Here's a great place to start learning SEO: SEO: The Free Beginner?s Guide From Moz.

I would recommend that you start a some new sites if you don't already have a couple. Practice optimizing and learning from them. No amount of reading will trump first hand practice.

Also, San Francisco SEO and Internet Marketing | Blind Five Year Old, Kaiserthesage – Philippines’ Premier Online Marketing Blog & Point Blank SEO - Link Building Blog are good SEO blogs to learn from.

There are a lot of SEO tools (plugins) for Wordpress. After you have read Moz guide, you will have enough knowledge why you need them.
P.S. Create social accounts on popular platforms - they will help your SEO in the future.

In advanced learning, what I would say that focus on content creation that users like, if you are creating user friendly content your site would get optimized.

True. Sites - for humans, not bots - as Google says.

you can read some information from moz. I learnt about seo from a plugin. it has a checklist with the important stuff for doing the right seo, and you should accomplish them. it's called squirrly seo if you are interesting in it.

I don`t know how much this SEO trend will last, now with all these updates when the accent is put on content more than on SEO techniques. Anyways, besides some particularities, all techniques and methods are the same whether be Joomla or any other cms.

Of course, CMSs are same but Wordpress is a little more SEO friendly than others and it is easy to use, manage, design as well, it has lots of free plugins and themes which would help you in SEO, designing, automation etc.
