Google Plus Places SEO Help

Oh what a fine mess

Client has 2 locations currently and three Google Plus Pages.

2 are created by Google (they are local Places pages attached to the mapping results) attached to their two locations and verified and with content. Recently received reviews on these 2 pages.

1 is created by me that I updated for about a year until I realized that Google is going to give preference to the Places page and may or may not merge it with the work we were doing (the 3rd page created by me, adding status updates, content). After learning such, stopped adding content.

Recently I added the Individual Biz owner GooglePlus profile as the publisher (author) to the website. And with good results for as I had understood, Google wants people and not businesses to be author?

Is this still valid because Google emailed the client asking to link the 3rd Google Plus page and make it the publisher on the website (i.e. here is a line of copy to forward to your website and insert into the HTML).

We are getting #1 results for his local market that matches his NAP and showing his face/publisher profile. Not so much for those outside his small 10 mile radius. However ultimate long term goal has been to push to get to #1 for large city nearby (extremely competitive though).

What do you think?
Keep individual biz owner as publisher for site?
Change to 3rd Google Plus page as publisher for website?
Or can there be two publishers on a site?

Thanks for your help. First post in WF, so don't slay me please.

  • Robinoctane,

Forgive me if I have totally misinterpreted your questions but I’ll do my best to answer.

So are you saying the client has 2 place pages (one for each of their locations) and one Google Plus Business page?
Also, when you mention the business owner or the business being the “publisher” are you talking about Google Authorship?

If those things are true, I don’t believe you can create an authorship profile for a business at this point. I think it must be an individual and it must be linked to a Google Plus profile. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure this is the way it has to be.

Regardless of what you have going on right now, if I were starting from scratch for this person, this is what I would do.
This scenario assumes they have one brand/business and two locations.

Create 2 Places listings (within the same account) with their respective information
Create 1 Google Plus Business page for the brand (also with the same Google account)
Register the business owner’s Google Plus profile (their personal one not the business one) with Google authorship and link that to the website or blog or where ever there is content being produced.

    Hope that helps,
    Shawn
