Anybody else seeing unusual Google dances everyday?

Before the recent G update, one of my Amazon sites was #3, with a competitor #2. The #1 position was held by consumerreports.

Now the ranks are like:

#1 consumerreports
#2 consumerreports
#3 competitor
#4 consumerreports
#5 my site

The problem is, my site keeps bouncing between appearing nowhere, and appearing at #5, and has been for the past 5-days. I have absolutely no idea what the hell's goin on. My other Amazon sites, which are all built the same way, are absolutely fine and have held their rankings just fine.. Weird as hell!

Yeah there is a lot of fluctuation at the moment.

However it only seems to apply to (thin) affiliate/adsense type of sites, or any other site that is extreme thin in content.

Most rankings that I check for clients are deadly stable.

My spidey sense is tingling. I think they are getting ready to drop their

"deny the value of links upstream to spammers" update

which I can only deduce is tiered link building. August is when Christmas shopping starts online in the US and we have only one whole month between now and then.

Well, I'm basing this on a few affiliate sites that only received links from my private network and no spammy tiered link building at all.

All the other clients with non affiliate sites are the ones that are deadly stable, and they received the exact same links from my private network.

So based on my observations with my client base this stands alone from spammy tiered link building methods.

They're testing metrics. Once they determine which the order in which the people clicking are getting the most bang for the buck, they'll settle.

This has been going on for a long time. Google is constantly split-testing their SERPs IMHO. Why wouldn't they? They're the world's largest aggregator of data.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!
