Creative linkbuilding

Hello,

I wanted to share another strategy that I have used lately a lot to get backlinks and I'm pretty much killing with it right now.

It's about creating logos / headers to different blog owners. My approach was mainly on fashion bloggers (you know these 18-22yo wannabe fashion gurus).

So this is what I did:

I scraped together a list of 100 blogs that had atleast PR2 homepage and somewhat ugly or missing header. Of course, you can feel free to scrape together a better list using DA and PA metrics and even traffic (!).

Then I sent them an e-mail which was something similar to this:

"Hey NAME,

I noticed that you don't have any cool header like most of the fashion bloggers. Haven't you find any good one or is it just because you want to look more minimalistic?

Anyhow, I'm a logo and header designer who is just starting off. If you are interested, I can make you a header for FREE. In return, I would like you to mention me in one of your posts or sidebar.

If you are interested, shoot me an e-mail with additional details about your "dream" header.

Cheers,
YOU NAME"

... and after I had sent bunch of e-mails I got many positive replies. However, I was pretty picky and took only 10 of blogs that looked somewhat promising with higher PR and better DA/PA.

Once YOU have sent the e-mails you have basically two options:

a) You create a header by yourself (it requires some decent PS skills)
b) Or you outsource it from fiverr, elance or even from your friend for $5

So, I guess it took me 7 days to fully finish the headers and send them to the bloggers. 1 of them rejected the banner :p, 9 of them replaced/added my banner and also gave me a shoutout on their blog.

So, my expenses were $5x10 = $50
Links: 3xPR4, 4xPR3, 2xPR2
Pretty good IMO

Some tips

x) Try to find blogs that are selfhosted so that you can be more sure that they won't delete/close their blogs on random day when they are having PMS.
x) Try to find blogs that are getting somesort of traffic. In that way you can get a link + potential customers.
x) After you have sent them your work and they like it, kindly ask them to share your offer to her friends.

So that's basically it. If you are writing guest posts, begging your links to resource section or stalking competitor links it can be a great alternative to fresh your mind and come "out of the box".

Hope that helped someone.

I am interested in this post and it's very close to what I have been thinking. And that is... can you just pay somebody to post a link to your site? How much would it cost to get someone to do it? My niche is very narrow but high profit per sale. I've never approached other site owners but I would think they would be hesitant to post a link. Although, maybe I could go to more fringe oriented parts of my industry, so I would not be seen as their competitor. I am curious just HOW to people get real white hat links.
