Same image on 2 websites - Duplicate Content?

I wonder if I use the same image on 2 of my websites, can this be considered as duplicate content? Or should I just add different alts and titles for the image and it will be OK?

  • Of course this is NOT a duplicated content... Like if you use the same profile image in 5 social media sites, this is NOT duplicated content! For best results you could use different image name and ALT tag if you use them on the SAME website, but on different pages... No problem if you use it in two DIFFERENT websites!

  • just name the image on each site with a differing name ie name.jpg & noname.jpg or whatever suits.

  • From a strictly technical standpoint, yes it is duplicate content. It's the same thing. It's a duplicate. Will it harm your SEO is the question - I doubt it, but I would still use different alt title and image names.

  • Thank you guys for your replies.
  • Yes it is duplicate content. You won't have your website penalized for this, but the image will only help one of the websites rank. It will also typically only rank in Google Image search for one website and be left out for the other.

I know this because I have recently been experimenting with duplicate images in SEO, and Google is very smart in preventing them from ranking.

However, one thing you can do to get them both ranked is to slightly modify one of them, so that it isn't a 100% duplicate. Then, Google will rank it separately as if it is a new image.

  • Maximum its looks like a duplicate content issues.. Keep original by, you can resize the image size, add any text on images, change the image color to look better.. Alt and Title change is the good idea..

    Thanks
