Does it help (in regards to SEO) to be on the shared server with many sites in the same industry?

Hey guys,

I know that was a long question

Basically, I want to know if there is a positive or negative effect to my website, in regards to SEO, if my website is hosting on a shared server that has other domains that are in the same industry/niche?

I have no idea. I think it would help but I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Peter

I can't imagine that it would. In fact... there might be a concern that being on the same server would devalue any incoming links from those other sites.

On shared hosting you are still on completely separate domains so no, this would not help your SEO rankings in any way. It wouldn't hurt them either.

I agree with Chris, hosting accounts where you only have one IP with multiple domains will not give you the link value like sites on seperate class "C" IP's.

hit me up if you would like to discuss further. Hope this helps.

I contacted a reseller company and they told me that I can buy an IP address for an extra per month. What do you guys think about that? Would that help? Is it necessary?

    Thanks again,

    Peter

I'm very close to being out of my depth here, but... I THINK you would want to make sure hat those IP's are not in the same IP block (whatever that is <grin>).

It has nothing to do with SEO ... and does not effect your site one way or the other. You are on a different domain name, the ip address has nothing at all to do with it. The ip is the ip of the server you are hosting your own unique domain name on.

No you do not need to buy another IP .. Sure the host may tell you that but remember they are in business to make money.

Thanks James. I've heard about the C-class IP trick from someone else other than the hosting company. That's why I wanted to see if there are any advantages/disadvantages to that.

      I agree with the RichJerksNet.

I for one don't think there is any effect either way and even if there was, it would be far too minimal to worry about
