How come you had to change the ip address of your website? Google shouldn't have penalized your site just for doing that.

Guys at Hostgator moved my site to some different IP few days back and since then my site has lost 40% of its organic traffic. I've requested them to assign my site the same old IP but haven't heard any response from them till yet..

Make sure new IP is not on blacklist or listed as spam IP..

This isn't a penalty. It is actually temporary because of the IP change.

Don't worry, your rankings will bounce back.

When Hostgator moves a site they also point your old nameserver to the new nameserver, BUT I know from experience that it doesn't always work as planned.

So check and make sure your new nameserver is listed correctly at your domain registrar.

Or, just call HostGator...their tech support is VERY helpful.

If these changes occurred last night I'm certain that any loss in rankings would be due to a change in IP or any hosting related change.

If there is change in IP address then you have to wait for months to normalize the ranking..
