Question about ranking #1 in google.

Well I was wondering, suppose a keyword has 110,000,000 results but only around 19,000 results in quotes, is it worth trying to dominate that keyword or should I leave it alone because of the 100 million results without quotes...

    Here's my 2 cents worth...

19,000 in quotes is very do-able. As for the 100 million plus, it depends on the actual words eg if you have common words like "training" or "solution" or "make", you can expect the without quotes search result to be huge.

The best #1 result I have currently is:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 67,400,000

Honestly it was super easy to get with a WP self-hosted blog and a little social bookmarking...however this is not always the case.

Get the keyword phrase in your domain...check competition to see how much anchor text/backlinks they have, domain age, etc...

There are a variety of criteria you need to evaluation beyond simple "in quotes and without quotes" search strings.

How many people do you know who put quotation marks around their search terms?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

Virtually 'zero'...the only reason to test that search is to assist in the predictive process of 'can I rank for this term'

It's just one of a group of indicators to look at.

        Hi petevamp,

I've got a question for you. Why do videos seem to be ranked and searched faster on Google search engines, rather than other forms of media, such as blogs and websites?

I've been hearing it a lot recently from top IM's and I'm just wondering what the reason is? I thought Google ranks based on keywords within articles and the backlinks to your site?

        Thanks.

        • These type of things can vary, as Google is always throwing around their algorithm and sometimes it picks up keywords or words phrases that have nothing to do with their actual category.

But, even though there is a high return on the keyword, it could still be worth looking into. I mean if you don't mind give us the keyword you are targeting, and give us a approximate monthly budget, and we as a professional web development/ internet marketing company would be happy to look into it and do some quick analysis over it for you and see if it can be achieve with your budget or if it is best to try to target something else.

It is very possible to dominate the key word it just takes more tactics. The fastest way to do so is with videos. Once you build a video start writing your articles linking back to the video. Social bookmark the video like crazy and before you know it you will own that top spot for google. I did this for a few highly saturated keywords such as dedt relief and was able to get to the top spot with in 2 weeks. Make sure with your video discription you place the links to your sales page.

Just use the adwords keywords tool, and find out how many times people search your keyword with quotes, and then you will know if it's worth it.

How many search results come up when you search for something is irrelevant... you should pick keywords to dominate looking at the search volume. Google Keyword tool will also tell you the search volume with quotes and without.

While doing this, make sure you select "exact" keyword search. I earlier made a mistake of searching with "broad" selection, it wasted all my keyword targetting.

Apart from search volume one should look at the competition factory.. Competition I mean the the websites listed on the first page. We must determine weather we can beat them with our SEO strategies. Are there any highly authority domains like .edu, gov etc..

Dont just look at the number of results or quotes.
You have to identify the PR rank of the top 10 websites for that keyword.
If most of them have high pr (5-9), then consider choosing a different keyword with less competition.I find the google keyword tool to be very useful.
