Why do SEOers say you want links to pages within your site but not home page?
#home #link #page

    Who says that lol?

Link to your homepage should be your ultimate nr1 goal.

However, if you have boring homepage (for example plumbering company) then you should create additional blog pages / sub-pages with engaging-interesting-sharable content.

Then do some proper outreaching, try to get link to this page. This will boost your site overall authority and you can start climbing on the SERPs. When you have enough links on that particular page, you can always do some internal linking from THAT page to your HOMEPAGE.

Most people say ignore homepage links, because most people are chasing impossible niches. If you're going after "technology news" as your primary keyword, then it's pretty much pointless chasing anchor links with "technology news" to your homepage. Instead, it's typically much more profitable to create a post about the Top 10 iPhone apps, and then backlink to that post to try and rank it.

Likewise, if your homepage is targetting something do-able, like "Slow Cooker Reviews", then by all means, blast the homepage.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!
