Editin a page if there is overuse of keywords

Some say don't use a keyword more than 3-5 times. I don't understand that. What if it's a long page? It seems that overall word count would matter regarding how many times you could use it.

Anyway, regardless... can you go in and edit and remove some of the uses of the keyword so you don't have so many?

And anyone have an opinion on how many times to use a certain key phrase?

Write for people, there's no magical density number.

Use the keyword once in important places like <title>, <h> tags, anchor-text from relevant pages, image alt text.

If you use your keywords too often, it looks fake. That's considered keyword stuffing and is usually done just to get a ranking. The best way to judge is to read and see if it flows naturally or if your keyword seems to be a hurdle.

Some say that the sun revolves around the Earth... It sounds like you're doing the right thing: thinking for yourself and questioning what you hear. That's good. And you're right: the amount of times you use a keyword should be proportional to the page length. That being said, don't go nuts over keyword density. Just use it in the title tag, in the beginning of the article and a few more times in the post. Yes, you can go back and change it: it's your post!
