Do guest posting properly, or don't do it at all...

This is partly me venting, and partly giving advice to guest bloggers...

Today I've had to reject 3 guest post submissions in a row, from 3 different sources, because the articles were re-written/spun/plagiarized from other sources.

If you are able to get these low quality articles past an editor/blogger/webmaster etc. then I would suggest the links you get won't stand the test of time - your article will appear along side a whole bunch of low quality garbage and sooner or later those sites will be devalued by major search engines, and your links along with them. Worse still, you may get flagged for having an unnatural backlink profile.

It can be quite difficult to get your guest posts on to high quality sites which don't allow this kind of thing, so when you're fortunate enough to have the ear of a blogger or editor, don't screw it up!

Don't you know that guest posting is the new article submission?

But yeah. Too bad it is so predictable....

Here's another tip for guest bloggers - when you send examples of your previous work, don't provide spun articles.

Believe it or not, I've had that a few times, and it happened again today.

Can you guys provide me a sample email that you written up to contact the owner of the blog in order to be accepted as a guest blogger? What other information do they usually required beside a sample writing? I asked that because I already found some blogs I want to link back to my site, but not sure what is the best approach. I don't want to screw up the first impression.

    Thanks for the reply,

      Thanks for the reply,
It's really not that difficult - just come straight to the point and say that you would like to be given the opportunity to write a guest post.

      Some things to include:
      • Links to examples of previous work
      • Sometimes attach a guest post you're offering
      • Suggest a topic you'd like to write about
      • Say who you write for - make it clear if you're an agent for 3rd parties

      Things NOT to include:
      • Lies or misrepresentations - I've had one person praise an article on my site that didn't exist!
      • False praise about the blog/website you're approaching

Now with these things above you shouldn't need a template, you are supposed to be a writer afterall.
