Ranking a 2 months old domain

I have an internet marketing forum that has been alive for over 2 months now. It is a 2 word .com domain and the words in the domain have no competition or monthly searches according to google keyword suggestion tool.
The funny thing is when i type the domain in to separate words without .com it doesn't show up on the first page. In fact last I checked it was about 4-5 pages down. Not even if I type the words together will I be the first in google.
I have not done any backlink promotion other than links from youtube to my forum.
I have about 92 results in google with "domain.com".
I thought that a no competition exact match domain was very easy to rank?

I think you might have got the wrong idea, when people say "easy". Easy means less work, but then again, "easy" is also subjective to who is doing the work.

For a forum, content is very important thing, try developing content in your forum and it would start pickup... there is no doubt to it..You can promote your forum in other related forums via signature links as well.

I don't think content is any problem:

What would be the minimum work requirement to rise above this threshold?
I mean I'm looking into ranking exact match domains with low comp high traffic keywords but I think I would fail if it was several months waiting time and a lot of necessary backlinking to do because I'm not an expert in this field and for that reason I wanted to try a simple method in the first place.

      Cheers

Yet another person who thinks that the Google AdWords tool tells you how much competition a search query has.. For the last time this year, the Google AdWords tool tells you how many advertisers are bidding on that query. It has NOTHING to do with the search results, apart from the estimated traffic.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Sorry if I made you connect it like that but it wasn't my intention to imply that you see the organic search results competition status in the google adword keyword tool. I know you need to look in the organic search result hit counts to find that out.
