My website ranks 5th on live/msn but nowhere near the top on google and yahoo for the term sportsbook review. I'm wondering what i can do to improve this.
Any help is greatly appreciated. (I have put sitemaps on google webmaster tools and yahoo siteexplorer)
the site is sbkreview c.o.m.

Thanks,

    Two quick suggestions:

    1) Make "sportsbook review" your primary keyword. Right now it's second.

    2) Write your website for your visitors, not the search engines. Then go back and do the little SEO tweaks like an H1 or H2 headline with your keyword in it. Right now your page reads like you're trying really hard to cram in as many keywords as possible. The search engines might even penalize you for that and your readers will simply be confused and click away.

Get more backlinks to your site using 'Sportsbook Review' as your anchor text.

Devilfish, In the google webmasters tools i have about 1100 backlinks and most have the anchor text Sportsbook Review. How many would you say i need to rank competitively?

By primary keyword do you mean in the meta keywords tag to make it in the first position?

Thanks Travish, I also had another question. My domain has only been registered for about 2 or 3 months. Do the search engines penalize you for that? Also I have read that it should be registered for longer than 1 year is there any truth behind that?

Don't think so. Domain names are not related to building great sites.

Also, any domain name can be registered for minimum 1 year and maximum 10 years.

Oh, one last thing. My index.php page has a google PR of 1 yet my domain has a 0. Does this make any difference in how i rank? All of my backlinks are pointing to the domain itself so i'm not entire sure why the index has a higher pagerank.

Thanks for all of the help so far.

Ideally you should only have one index page, whether it's the domain itself, index.php or index.php?. I would add 301 redirects in your .htaccess file to point these instances to your domain. Then you will be consolidating all 3 PR ratings into one.

Regarding how many backlinks does it take to be competative, that depends on what niche you are in. But I think it's safe to say that you can never have too many, the more will always be better. Draw up a list of your competitors and see how many backlinks they have, see where their backlinks are coming from and see if you can mirror their links. LinkDiagnosis is a great site for checking these stats.

    Devilfish,

so if I were to add a 301 redirect from my index.php page this would transfer that pr to the domain itself?
Also, is this the code i should use?
    redirect 301 /index domain

This is the code you should add to your .htaccess file...

      Code:
      RewriteEngine on
      RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9} /([^/]+/)*index.(htm(l)?¦php) HTTP/
      RewriteRule ^(([^/]+/)*)index.(htm(l)?¦php)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
That will redirect index.php or index.html or index.htm to root. Remember to change example.com to your own url.

        Devilfish,
I made the change of the domain and this into my .htaccess file. I get an internal server error though when trying to view the website after this change. What mistake did i make?

Okay i solved the problem with the code, my only question is now that it just shows my domain as the homepage rather than the index file i have a pagerank of 0. Should this take some time to change?

Reduce scrolling significantly - there should be an easy way to tell what this site is.

Use more than two colors - preferably ones that don't clash. Stop using that typewriter font. Use something like Verdana for large sections of text, it's much easier to read.
