Common keywords

I'm trying to figure out the best keywords to get typical homeowners who live in my area to come to my website when they need an electrician.

I'd think that it would be pretty standard for electrician. Things like "mytown electrician" "generator installation" (my preference) "Electrical repair" etc. But maybe my customer base (homeowners) are searching with other keywords?

You would think what works for electrician is universal. How do I find out the best keywords to use for my site?

  • Would it work to just use the keywords that the large and successful electrician companies use?
  • I do not advise to use the keywords that large companies are already ranking as for sure it'll be hard to outrank them or compete with them. Certainly, there can be a lot of good local keywords to choose from that would be easier to rank for - it'll just take some keyword research.

    • Trying going with "country name+city name" + keyword

That will make it easier to rank.
Just remember to check the number of exact searches per month for such keywords.
    • That's what I don't know how to do.
  • You might also try to rank for cityname+state+specific job. Rather than just trying to rank for city name as some city names are same from state to state.
  • Do your zip code and keyword but you do need to do keyword research there are good guides on youtube to get started
