Should I Quit Social Bookmarking?

I have been using Only Wire for a few months now, social bookmarking every new article on my blog.

However, I have not seen any significant return on investment from doing it.

I post target keyword in the title, description and as a tag.

Market Samurai shows my back links increasing each week. But, my traffic has stayed about the same.

Should I quit social bookmarking? Is it a waste of $13 per month?

Are you also building up your social networks?

That's the key to social bookmarking (and marketing online!)

You don't just need backlinks.. you need that targeted traffic who's searching for content just like what you're offering.

For example, if you posted a million times to facebook and had 0 followers... no one would notice right? But if you posted once to facebook and had a million followers... you can see where I'm going with this.

Social bookmarking doesn't work right if you aren't using it properly, and backlinks isn't why it's effective.

You gotta get on those sites and get involved a little bit each day to build up networks of people who are interested in your content.

If you've been doing that and not seeing any traffic.. then it might not be a good fit for your niche.

i dont use the social bookmarking sites except to post a link to my blog. i use only wire because it auto posts to 40+ sites at once. so, since i dont actually network on them you think it is a waste of time?

Yes. Something you may not be familiar with is Klout.

It's a way of analyzing your social media networks to see how 'popular' you really are. If you have a ton of followers and NO ONE ever clicks on your links, you'll have a lower klout score than someone who has fewer followers and people who click on their links all the time.

I'd recommend ditching OnlyWire and setting up IFTTT, but this time focusing on getting people into your social networks.

On the other hand bookmarking worked for me but I was using services on Fiverr manually using 2-3 different variation of titles(keyword with in it) and descriptions. I am planning to switch to OnlyWire (not sure)

Let's help each other out, If you answer these questions I can tell if some thing's missing or only-wire is not worth.

    Questions -

Do you put your primary keyword (+ secondary keyword) in title while bookmarking?

Are your pages/posts optimized for any keyword (meta tags, keyword in title, keyword density etc etc)

Did you see any improvement in overall authority of your blog after 2-3 months of bookmarking? MOZ DA & PA are best available metrics to judge authority of a blog and it's posts.

You need to find value of SEOMoz's DA n PA - Domain Authority & Page Authority (DA n PA of 25,25 is good but improving them helps rank better)

Mozcheck.com - Bulk Check URLs for SEOmoz Scores - Free web based checker

        Official Add-on for Firefox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...bar-by-seomoz/

Like some one already said in this thread, variety of back links like a mix of Article Submission, Web 2.0 blogs, authority sites such as slide share (document sharing sites, video sites) and guest posting is a must.

Also can you check if back links generated by submission are indexed by Google by searching following in Google.com.
Site: URL of link to check follows

If majority of such links are not indexed, you may use Linklicious.me to get them indexed (Don't forget to DRIP feed to around 30-40 links per day)

    Definitely a waste.

You're better off with 2 1/2 Fiverr gigs than $13/month worth of social bookmarks.

I've never been a fan of Social Bookmarking. After a while, most of the links are removed so they serve very little long-term value. I agree that they can be an excellent source of traffic.

I would cancel the subscription and build them manually on the best sites (high traffic) like Reddit, SU, Digg Digg. It doesn't take long.

You can continue doing social bookmarking. You should also diversify and and build links from various types of websites like Web 2.0 (contextual, mix of do-follow and no-follow), Article Directory, Wiki, Press Release, Document Sharing, HPBL, etc.
