Penalty, but no drop in Rankings

I have a very weird and particular situation. One of my clients has outsourced his seo to two companies he never met. I looked at his Webmaster today and he was penalized by Google 2 weeks ago and has 524 sample meta descriptions. The icing on the cake is he has 5k backlinks. All have nothing to do with his products, industry, and are spun beyond recognition.

Anyone know why he is still on Google? The companies are just blasting his website to stay up there I guess?

  • What tool did you use to check the rankings?

If you are just doing it manually, try logging out of your Google account or use Pagewash to see the real rankings not based on your Google account's search preferences.
  • The rank never drops and why you judge the website to be penalized!

    • The weird thing, is that people are paying you, paying them, and
      everyone is clueless.

We now have gone full circle. The google penalty that's not
      a penalty.

SEO gurus should be penalized in their wallets. Some of them,
      that is.

  • What are you guys talking about? I don't do SEO for him. He's actually a friend. I just checked webmaster and he got the manual penalty message from Google. But his rankings have no dropped per webmaster rankings.

    Any reason behind this?
  • To be honest I'm a grey hat SEO guy. I just want to know why the mythical Google ban hammer didn't blast his site to oblivion like all the White Hat SEO guys tend to lead on.

I've never actually seen a manual penalty. I thought it didn't exist lol.

  • Really, how long does it usually take? It's been 10 days? It says in the Google message it was a manual penalty.
