I was thinking of buying a deleted domain to see what I can do with it..

I was just wondering when I'm looking to purchase a deleted domain what is the most important thing to keep in mind?

PageRank?
Alexa?
Backlinks?

and.. what about DMOZ? what's the benefit of that if their DMOZ listing doesn't really apply to you? will it still help?

it would be great if the domain have high PR and good backlink at same time,
if only have high PR,google may delete it soon because almost no traffic.
so get a domain with high PR and good backlink is better, this will make the PR stays longer
DMOZ will gain your doamin's credit, google will notice that, and good for ranking if you like

I'd inspect all the backlinks and see what type of quality you're looking at.

Last think you want is to purchase a domain that was a "spam vehicle" for someone or just a "testing" site for building links and churn/burn.

Check the anchor text too to verify that it wasn't a churn/burn site. If it looks natural, then great. If it's been spammed to death with the same anchor text, might want to pass on it.

don't buy deleted domain, because more than 80% of them have been penalized by Google before.

You may not find the backlinks record because google removed them from database. However, once you build a website by using such domains will find all the keywords will never ranked in Google.

Buy live website, don't buy deleted domain. Quite risky.

Alexa is not important. First, make sure it's still indexed in Google. Second, look at the backlink profile. Make sure there are no spam links. Third, analyze PageRank, Page Authority and Trust Flow. I personally only buy domains with PA above 40 and Trust Flow above 15, although 20 is better.

    It depends what you want the domain for, as I use them for SEO i look for;

The DA, PA and Moz Rank.

    DA above 30
    PA above 40
    Moz Rank Above 4.8
and at least 3-4 links from page rank 4 sites and up

You want to make sure all the links are of high quality, find anything spammy (even just one link) then move on.

Care to elaborate on how you manipulate MozTrust? This is a genuine request by the way - I'd be interested to hear as I tend to look at this metric most often.

    David,

PR is becoming an outdated metric when looking at the authority of a domain. I pay attention to Moz's Domain Authority/Page Authority as well as Majestic SEO's Citation Flow and Trust Flow.

I created a video tutorial on how I search for and purchase expired domains here www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=_w3I5Jhc5ak

Depending what you want them for, if you want them for SEO porpuses, the most important part is to see the backlinking profile, you wont be able to see the Alexa nor the PR rank since many of them may be deindexed or deleted.

Besides that, evaluate that the website has not been "punished" by a spammer

whenever I am buying an aged PR domain, I look at the back links for that domain since that tells most of the story.

Generally speaking, in my experience, the high PR is generated by a handful of very high quality links pointing to the domain. We're talking about links from established websites.

So just look at the back links and the domain age and you should be able to get your hands on some very good domains that way.

    Hope that helps.

Yeah I can't really add much more than the guys above - the actual links are more important than any metric although I do prefer to use MozTrust for the root domain over any of the others. A score of 4 or more and it's on my maybe list to buy.

I use PR, and Majestic's CF and TF measures as indicators at the moment.
You should check index domain before buy it

Examining if the domain's PR is fake or not and the backlink profile of the domain are necessary. I use Majectic for checking backlinks. You should target at getting at least 2 or more backlinks with PR that is equal or higher than the domain you want to buy. This gives you guarantee that the domain will maintain its PR in case one of the links was removed as the other link would be sufficient.
