Hi,
Ive been searching this topic for the last few days, but all the information seems outdated. I ve recently bought a .me domain and i was wondering how good it will rank on google... But i cant find any information about that.. I know that .me domains are TLD... But still i dont know if it will rank good on google.
Actually I think i rarely find a .me domain on the google search...

Does anyone had good results with .me? Or knows about this topic?

Thanks in advance.
Rui Santos

P.S. Its for a personnal blog

.me domain is expensive, and not good. Have you ever see any .me website ranked on the first page of Google? I never see it before. The .me domain is just wasting money.

.me domain also known as personal website. Google give higher ranking for commercial website only.

Well, right off the bat you're wrong. A .me domain isn't any more expensive than any other TLD. One is about $10 right now at GoDaddy. Possibly cheaper at other registrars.

I will agree that the intention of the .me extension was for personal sites. Actually, it's for the country of Montenegro, but it's become commonplace and acceptable to use it for personal sites. So if you want to use it for a business, then that doesn't really make a lot of sense (though I doubt Google will "punish" you for that). For a business I would think you could come up with a good name that's a .com.

As far as ranking, I can't add anything as I've never tried to rank one. However, I do own many domains for backlinking purposes, and one of those is a PR5 .me I bought almost 2 years ago. It's remained a PR5. That doesn't have anything to do with ranking, but it shows that as far as Page Rank Google treats it the same as any other extension (it has some great links pointing to it, so it got a high PR).

Thanks for the great response... I really like my domain with .me extension but I think I'll buy a .com... It will be easier and safer to rank on google. Instead of spending time and probably never rank on google with the .me domain.
But in theory google should threat all the TLD exactly the same ... but probably that's just theory.

yeah that's what I thought... as I never seen (or rarely seen any .me domain on top of google) I don't think they will rank properly.
But It can also happen because probably no one is trying to rank .me domain or just a couple of people...

the domain extension have nothing to do with Google ranking, a .me site will not rank any better than any other domain extensions.
its about the links and the content.

I'm not completely sure about that... that's good tells you....that the important thing is content but actually what I've seen recently with the Omega SEO course by source-wave.com.
Is that with only a youtube video and a sentence you can rank really easily if you choose the best keywords and proper backlinking. but probably because It's a .com or .net domain... if it was a .me I guess it would be harder to rank...
But as I don't know anyone that tried to rank a .me domain it's almost impossible to answer this just by guessing...

Get a .com - add a prefix (preferably) or a suffix to find a domain that hasn't been registered. Check out Sedoand other aftermarkets to buy a better domain.
that's what I might do... just because I don't want to spend time rank a domain that actually probably will be 10x difficult to rank...

If you decide to go with the .me TLD and you plan on attracting organic search traffic, you might want to 1) host it in the country you wish to target; and 2) optionally geo-target the country you are targeting in Google Webmaster Tools.

Although not absolutely necessary, doing both of these things will increase your ability to rank your site for the country of interest.

People have no clue about TLDs, so they spew forth nonsense
      about .coms.

.me is one of the up and comers for, well, "me" domains.

      Meet.me, hoot.me, tap.me, join.me, are some of the
      best things around.

Never see one #1? Just because you don't search for terms,
what does that have to do with shinola?

The real world searches for real terms, not IM garbage.

      So, do a search for
      screen sharing app

      I dare you.

Do any of you use tango? I do. Millions do. tango.me
      What a shock, right?

If you have the right site, .me is perfect.

Some of you who spend your time searching for nonsense terms,
of course you are never going to get real websites, like
      about.me, outgrow.me, etc.

I wonder why so many who venture into making websites,
(and I use that term loosely) are so ignorant of what is
going on in the tech world.

Thanks for the information, by the way my niche on that website has nothing to do with IM so when I said I don't find .me domains on search. It means almost in any search. I don't even search IM marketing terms on google. I do like to learn IM and I spend money on courses to apply to my niche.

And of course you only referred top websites about.me, tango.me...
I'm talking about other keywords, for example in the electronics world (that's my niche)
when you search on google for electronics, electronics projects whatever you never find a .me domain ranking higher.
Or in tons of google searches, like music, anything. I would like that you give a good example and not an about.me website example. because of course that will rank really good. I'm talking about personal blogs.
you know some good examples of personal blogs that are rank on top of google?

Thanks so much for your help! I've really appreciated your answer!

Good information. I've been thinking of using a .me just to see if it'll work and I might just give it a go

My .tv domains didn't rank until I changed the geo-target setting in webmaster tools.

Well I am not same opinion regarding .me domain.

    My Views:
    1) First of all I like to draw attention all the friends of this thread, during my work I found .me domain ranking top as well as top -- search keywords "PENIS ENLARGEMENT" find .me domain in top # 10 position, as you know "PENIS ENLARGEMENT" is very tough keywords so .me domain ranks if SEO done properly.

    2) Another things happened with me. The first time when .me domain registration started I brought 1 domain in my city name (KOLKATA.me) after 1 year 11 month I not able to manage time to built it up, and sold them to a buyer, he paid me for that 10 times higher price than I brought.
In recent day it is premium domain worth $7500

So domain is important !! but more important what you do for that domain.

    Thanks,
    Suva

I quite agree with Paul: me extension is very popular in the tech world. Lots of IT startups these days use them. The second popular extension of the kind is .it: scoopt.it, commun.it and such.
So it's really a trend. .me, .it and similar extensions make domain names easy to remember, so the app developers opt for them without hesitation.

The .me extension has grabbed a foothold in social media areas and some others that are somewhat involved in Web 2.0 kinds of things. A .me doesn't really work too well for a droll serious site (like a law firm) but can work really well in lighter circumstances.

That said, the gold in .me is single word .me domains that are phrase hacks (i.e. Help.me = "help me"). 2 or more words and the power of the domain is much much less.

As for rankings, I doubt it's that much less powerful than other .com alternatives outside of .net and .org, but it's not likely as powerful as a .com, .net or .org. I tend to agree that few of them rank highly, and the ones that do have ridiculously good social signals and naturally built links in to get those rankings. In other words, they were already seen by many as an authority or go-to site in their industry/niche before they reached their ranking.

I am not sure if .me domain has anything to do with Google ranking but what I’m sure about is that content does. You have to update your personal blog on a regular basis—schedule the frequency if you must so that your audience would know when to expect new posts. Focus more on writing quality content because if your readers find your content useful, that’s when you get to enjoy good ranking on search engines.
