Penguin 2.0 blew me out of the SERPs... Advice?

Hey all. I'm new to WF, but not new to IM. I'm going to explain everything that I did and maybe some people can give me advice.

I was ranking VERY well for my sites. I was using Joseph Archibald's backlinking strategy and over the past 2 months I was getting around 2000 unique visitors per day. Then after P2.0 I went out of the SERPs for most of my keywords. Of the 350 or so that I was ranking for, I lost all but 20 of them. I get around 30-40 unique visitors per day now and it just sucks!

All my on-page SEO is perfect, I don't really need help with that.

The backlinking strategy:

- Write an article and post it on my money site.
- Spin the article to create backlinks from blogger, tumblr, wordpress etc.
- Using Unique Article Wizard with the same spun article to blast backlinks to my backlinks.

I think the problems may be from my anchor text ratio. I don't have many nofollow links. I also don't have many "click here" or naked urls to most of the articles. BUT for one of my URLs I have the perfect anchor text ratio and it also got blown out of the SERPs. Is there an automated tool that I can use for getting nofollow links? I'm using a mac and it just cannot run a virtual machine at all. It runs soooo slow that it renders the computer useless.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

  • If you are having all anchor text on your keywords, it will be considered over optimized; you need variations; lsi keywords

You can try any Wiki Submission software as most of the Wiki sites are nofollow.. But to be safe, don't go for blasting.I have collection of High PR Wikis sites. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you.

Don't spin your main pages articles, Those should be 100 unique. Your tier 2 backlinks could be created and spun pointing to your money site article. Never should your tier 1 and money site articles be in any way be the same. As said, your keywords might have a high density. Try aming for .05% to lower the optimization.

That strategy built a whole lot of low quality links until they hit a toxic level and wiped out your whole domain.

Your best bet is to move your content to a new, fresh domain and change your linking practices.

Interesting replies. I get it though.

Would removing the links and starting fresh be better than making a new domain? Also what are the best link building tactics now then? Or do most people sit on their hands and wait for some magical backlinks to come along nowadays?

How many pages of content do you have on the domain? How much is the traffic down?

You say it as if links made by auto submission software, where ever good.

The best links now, are exactly the same links that where the best since links became a hugely weighted factor in SERP positioning.

      The Best links are,
Contextual editorial links, placed within high authority webpages.

Emphasis on the word "Webpages", as in your link needs to be on that page with the authority. Not a free freshly built backend sub-domain with no authority at all.

      Once more for the homies.

You need your link on the "Page" with authority. Not somewhere random on a "Domain" with authority.

They don't have a clue what you're saying. That's the reason 'link building' doesn't even make sense for most newbies.

All they hear is 'get links' and you'll win. The only places they build links are low level sites. Then they get nuked.

Since they don't understood the concepts behind PageRank, cached pages, relevancy, and authority they land in hot water.

Most of them would be better off improving their site quality and working on social engagement instead of following the other lemmings off the cliff.

BTW, I figured you were the 'Angry Ginge' guy from YouTube.

You should focus on building high authority backlinks with a tiered structure. Create a unique 550 word article that points to your site and then start the tiered process to build that backlink to a high pr ranking. Just rinse and repeat. It might take awhile but you'll end up with high quality backlinks.

How is that different from the strategy that I was using in the OP?

C'est la vie - that's why they come here. And then they get splattered by even more dross from WSOs and link sellers. I think it's a rights of passage thing. Hopefully a few will be able to see beyond the bull.

I bolded out all the things you are doing wrong. Sorry.. It's just too much

    - Why do you need nofollow links? They don't provide any value
    - There is no such thing as "perfect anchor text ratio"
    - Why do you spin the articles?
    - Why you make fake blogs?

Seriously, you should get an instant refund from the whoever guy who told you to do this.

So you are saying that we should not aim to have nofollow links at all? Seriously?

*EDIT - Not that I don't get what you mean about spinning articles and making blogs though.

It doesn't matter If you build nofollow links or not as far as SEO.

Spinning articles is a good way to get unique articles, why should people avoid this? Just try to use spin articles just to Web 2.0s, and the article spinner tool to make a unique article with synonyms.
Try this free tool: Article Rewriter
    It is very good.
