How long before adding adsense?

Hi warriors,

I have a new Wordpress blog and I am adding content daily.

How long would you wait before adding adsense?

Does adding adsense hinder your initial ranking and placement in the SERPs?

Should you wait until you start to see steady traffic? No point in adding adsense if there's no organic traffic.

Thanks!

How long? When you see enough targeted search traffic arriving at the site. The actual number will vary depending on the niche as will the time interval. I've had some start getting good traffic within days while others took months.

Putting on Adsense too early might cause you problems. It's unclear exactly how much impact this has but it does seem niche dependent. If you have a site in a high competition niche, like trial lawyers, then you're likely to be flagged and demoted as "made for Adsense" but in lower competition niches it doesn't seem to matter too much. You do at least need to make sure that your site is complete and has been indexed satisfactorily by Google before adding Adsense because this will affect the ads you see. Otherwise, you'll probably get untargeted cheap ads or the dreaded PSAs.

well as far as i know its always better to add adsense after you start getting some respectable traffic to your site and after your site becomes old...
This way you get something new added to ur site which will allow your old visitors to click on something new and will get you targetted trafiic and hence more clicks

When making niche WP blogs that have mostly ebay listings and maybe amazon, along with a couple articles, I will put adsense on the first day. It will usually take less than an hour to show. I just made an ipod site last night and adsense was on in about 45 minutes. I have had to wait a few hours before but not longer than that.

bgmacaw is totally spot on above. Publishers and people in IM aware of Adsense are conditioned to 'spot' the ads, but normal 'every day' searchers online aren't. If the ad interests them and is relevant to what they were searching for they will click on it.

I average 24% CTR across all my sites with Adsense on them. If that's "ad blindness" I want me some more of it! LOL

Google Adsense will do nothing to your rankings except allow you to profit off the clicks. It is good and safe to add Adsense once you got a reliable amount of content. Ideally around 25 posts and above.

John, they're obviously not wearing your shades

@AlbertF - It's not so much about reliable content, it's more about getting targeted traffic to your pages. You could have 100 pages on a site but if it's not getting targeted traffic it's not worth monetizing.

    Quick question:

I've only recently heard that you shoudn't add Adsense for example day 1. I typically build Wordpress blogs and as I'm setting everything up I usually just add Adsense on the same day as part of my "setup" if you will.

I get my ads to show immediately, there is no delay. However, what I don't understand is how can having Adsense on a site from the first day actually hurt the site? I know what some are saying about getting organic traffic otherwise you're advertising to no one. But, some people can create a site and either drive traffic via PPC or ad sites and can earn straight away. Sure, usually these types of people may not be interested in SEO but can having Adsense on the first day really be all that bad? I've yet to experience anything detrimental...at least I don't think I have lol

Oh my, I too, certainly hope that Adsense from day1 isn't a problem. My latest sites are directories for certain professions and the Adsense blocks would look a bit empty without them. And I don't want to fill them with aff ads either.

I've always waited until I reach an average of 50 unique visits per day before I throw any ads up at all. And that's a pretty low standard. Depending on the niche and competition you can achieve that kind of traffic quickly enough. Less than that traffic and you'll be making nickels and dimes anyway, at least in my experience.
