Switched Servers, Same Domain, New Website | Old shows on Google

Hey Warrior Members,

I just registered as a new member. I've often came across Warrior forums when searching for information while developing my website. Now that my new website is finished I figured I'd join the community to seek advice on topics I'd like to gain insight on, and maybe share my own experiences to those looking.

My first question deals with my old website showing up in search results on Google. About 3 weeks ago I pointed my domain name to a new server as I signed up for a new out of the box solution from a third party. For some reason when I enter my company name on Google, my old pages are prominently displaying in the search results.

Obviously these links appearing in Google don't work since they differ from my new website (same main domain but different /urls ). I assumed google would recognize my nameserver change and automatically drop my old links but that is not the case.

So my question is, does anybody have any insight on how to correct this? My old server is still active with my old website files... When I delete my files from my old server will it correct the problem or is there more to it?

Thanks!
