UK Based WordPress Host

Hello,

I'm currently with 123 Reg for hosting, my WordPress website takes FOREVER to do absolutely anything. Fastest loading speed i've ever had was 5 seconds and using the WP admin panel is impossible. They also have a 30 second PHP timeout meaning that simply posting a page is impossible.

As a test, I signed up to HostGator on a free trial and the speed is just so much better, problem is, it's in the USA which is not great for SEO.

I would prefer a UK based Host that can handle a WordPress website.

Note: My website currently has 4 low spec plugins that cause no issue at all on a Hostgator hosting package but kill a 123 Reg host.

  • Says who? The "guru's"? It's fine.

    • Please don't try to give expert advice if you have no clue about what you are talking about. A site hosted in UK will definitely do better in google.co.uk and that is well known SEO fact. Not just the Gurus, anybody with basic idea of SEO will advice the same. If you don't believe me, hear it directly from Matt Cutts:

  • I've been using Wordpress and Hostgator for years and not seen any issues.

I used to have hosting in the UK with Krystal UK and decided to move away from them and put them on my hostgator hosting as it was working out better for money, easier to manage, better CP and help as well as offering quicker sites.

I'd go with hostgator over 123 reg for sure.

  • 123 is for old timers; it's horrible and outdated. Leave now!

I'm working the UK market, and my website is hosted on the US servers. No problem whatsoever.

  • I going to give you the benefit of the doubt & guess you skim read.

In response to the Local Vs International hosting I said this:
"We'll have to agree to disagree when it comes to the interpretation then, which is fair enough.
On the site you've pointed out, yes it ranks on the first page but I wasn't suggest you couldn't rank a site unless you were hosted in the country, just that from my interpretation of what G says is that it helps a bit.
Who is to say that if it were hosted in the UK it wouldn't be a spot or 2 higher on the first page? Maybe, maybe not it depends on the strength of the other sites."

I am not upset about that at all, we disagree fair enough no problem. I was just saying your example is not definitive proof. You still may be right, it's open to interpretation as I think we have both said.

In response to this: "Stop trying so hard for "seo" and focus on providing quality things people are searching for...life would be much easier"
I said: You don't know anything about me other than I interpreted a video in a different way than you, but that means you know my entire business & practices & are fit to pass judgement on them. **** off.

    Fairly clear I think.

    • Ok, you win. Shit, if they host the website in their office, it would probably be the very first link! So much regurgitated garbage on this forum anymore. Find yourself a decent web host and focus on the site itself.

EDIT: Also, my comment regarding trying too hard was not directed at you, it was moreso a general statement.

  • I use Web Hosting UK - Leader in Web Hosting & Domains who I'd recommend from my own experience.
  • You don't need to host it in the UK.
    - Google Webmaster Tools needs to be set if NOT a .co.uk (or other UK) domain
    - If a UK domain, it doesn't matter. It defaults to that location.

Where you host it means nothing. The speed of that host to UK, however, might matter.
So you can just as easily pick a host in Germany or Amsterdam ... it's fine.
If USA, make sure it's in NC, NJ or NY (east coast) for faster speeds.

A good UK host is Dataflame.
A good Amsterdam host is either Stablehost or EuroVPS.

Kingfish was NOT wrong, FYI. What I just said is exactly what Matt Cutts said (ie Google Webmaster Tools)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...zr3eWK8I#at=48

What's more, many IPs are SWIP'd to other geographies, because that info is based on office location of the host, not geography. I've had servers in Dallas to GeoIP to Ireland. One of my servers is sometimes incorrectly ID'd as Middle East, but it's in Amsterdam.

    • Think of using hosting services from readymakers.com.
They are able to satisfy the needs of the webmaster. And they have active and helpful support.
