Advice on AdWords campaign.

I'm looking for input from experienced Adwords warriors. What should I work on first, what to improve/optimize?

I started a campaign recently.

So far impressions are over 110,000
CTR = 0.17%
Conversions (orders) = 0

My conversions (orders) with non-adwords marketing is often in the area of 0.5% without any effort. So on average I should not have a conversion yet since there are fewer than 200 clicks.

This is my own product, it's been on the market for several years. We're using the same the landing/order page for this campaign that we use for all our marketing. Nothing changed in that respect.

Since you have some experience, you can determine how these statistics compare to your own. Based on the above statistics, what would you suggest I work on to improve the campaign?

Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Typically my CTR with adwords is usually in the range of 3% - 5% so you are well below my average.

    When my ads fall below my average I immediately adjust keywords and ad wording to make them more relevant to the search query. I think it's obvious that the user is not finding your ad relevant to their search so I would take a look at other ads in the same niche and make adjustments accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

    BTW, how is your quality score?

    • Thanks for the feedback.

      Um, (sheepishly), how do I check my quality score?

  • I would say if your conversions with adwords aren't great, go deeper with the long tail keywords. Hit keywords that are 100% targeted that are bound to be a buyer.

    • Albert, I sent you a PM with an image of my keyword stats for long-tail KW. If you get a moment, I'd really appreciate a response. I'm not getting the results I would need for a decent campaign. Can you steer me in the right direction?

      Thanks!
