Issues with Link Building

Hello all,

I have a classified ads site, and i had been talking with forum admins of the same niche so that i could buy a space on they forum to advertise my ads.

That's what i've been doing for the last 6 or so months. Every day i put there a few topics with links to classified ads on my site.

However, on webmaster tools i can't see those links. Is this normal? Google is ignoring them?

Thanks in advance, let me know if there is anything confused with the post, my english is not the best one.

EDIT: I've checked the links and they are not "nofollow"

  • Webmaster tools is kind a poor thing for checking "live" links.

Try http://ahrefs.com or Majestic SEO : Backlink Checker & Site Explorer

    Hope that helps

    • Aren't there any tool for free ?

Ok, i figured out why google is not indexing the links on one site. The dude put a rule for it on robots.txt...
  • Use Open Site Exploper, SEO MOZ, Alexa, Google, Yahoo for finding the back links. There are many other tools available.

    • Ok, i bought a subscription on Ahrefs site and checked all the backlinks.
In fact, i've been doing some link building on forums and the majority of the links don't appear.

What may be causing the problem?

Also, could anyone give me some tips on how and where to do the link building.
As my opponents are in the game for a few years they are well recnogized by the community, and so, in some cases the users do the link building for them.

I am in conversation with some bloggers to buy some articles with links with specific keywords. But when i look to my competition it seems that google preffers quantity instead of quality. One of my competitor has more than 700k links when i only have around 800 lol.

      Thanks!

    • I'm really becoming a fan of this one. Check it out for backlinks. It finds links ahrefs doesn't find.
