Are you using SEO page quake?
- SEO |
What I like to do for keyword search with this tool is.
1. First find my keywords. I like to use this tool Free Keyword Suggestion Tool From Wordtracker. Tip, when targeting a keyword, try using ones that are at least three words. This will lessen your competition.
These keywords are called longtail keywords.
2. Take my newly found keyword that I am going to target and search it on google. Put the keyword in quotations in order to find the optimized page count. Tip, you want the optimized page count for your keyword to be under about 35,000. Under 10,000 is great.
3. Now with SEO page quake turned on, look at sites on the first page of your google optimized search (the first ten sites). You want as little as possible of sites that have PR's of 5+, especially in the 3-5 positions. Tip, if there are a lot of sites with high PR then it will probably be better to find another keyword to target.
4. Another useful thing to look for is how many sites have your specific keyword in the title.
These steps should give you a pretty good idea of whether or not you have a highly searched and low competition longtail keyword to target. If your keyword has a lot of competition I would recommend changing it, unless of course you're really good at SEO and are able to wait a while for your site to slowly work its way up.
Just some food for thought, I love my SEO page quake and if you don't already have a tool like it I would suggest downloading it.
